Nope. They never said that they were scared. Obito only stated that Itachi was a thorn on his side.
Oh wow that makes total sense. Itachi spared Akatsuki to spy on them. If he was so strong, then why not just wipe them out from the start? Instead....

Obito made a pact with Itachi. Itachi would help him out if Obito spared Konoha. Pretty sure Itachi helping him out since the birth of Akatsuki was a better deal than destroying Konoha early.
Also, Itachi asked Obito to help him kill the Uchiha.
So I don't get how you twist it to Obito being scared.

So Kishi's the writer and you're saying he wrote Itachi wrong. Makes total sense.
The plot is what Kishi makes it out to be. If you don't like it, then too bad. That doesn't change the fact that Itachi wasn't almighty but instead a flawed individual, as stated by Kishi from the mouth of Itachi himself.
