Remember how Neji told Naruto that you can't change destiny?

That who he was meant to be was decided from the start?

Ironically, he was right.

Naruto managed to unite the Bijuus, gain the Sage's powers and unite the world only because he was the reincarnation of Asura. All of his abilities ( High Chakra, Bijuu chakra, stubborness ) are gained through his heritage, whether it's a gift/powerup from his father ( the 9 tails ) or his grandgrandgrandsomething ( the Sage ).

In the end, Neji was right. Naruto was destined for something and that something happened. The only thing Neji was wrong was predicting what exactly Naruto was. Neji saw him as a loser and it turns out Naruto had so much bloodline up his arse he'd make Orochimaru salivate thinking of it. And honestly now, how could Neji have predicted Naruto was the reincarnation of the son of some God of shinobi most consider a myth?

But pretty much everything Naruto does was through his heritage rather than talent.

All hail Might Guy, pretty much the only high tier character in the series that became strong through his own efforts.

Granted I thought when Neji said the stuff he did about Naruto was actually through. You know, Naruto being an underdog and all.

From what I heard is that Kishi somewhat disregarded all that and gave Naruto all these powerups and tied him into all these things that he lost his underdog appeal :p

He was right. He just didn't have all his facts down.

For example, I doubt he knew Naruto's parent were Minato and Kushina

Neji spoke sense. Lee had potential and was well ahead of everyone else yet ended up in mediocrity while those with destined powers rose to the top

Oh look, a horse who crossed the finish line after a year and a half. Lol.

Naruto's destiny would not have been made had he not worked his ass off like Ashura, Gai and Lee to achieve it. Even Sasuke had to work his ass off for several years to get where he was.

...And no one in the series got where they are "just through hard work." Hagoromo dispersed his chakra out to all the people of the world.

This. In the end, every achievement was thanks to a shit load of hard work and determination. So what if Naruto had this great heritage which could provide him with power? You could have all the power in the world but would still be weak if you had no idea how to use it. To add to that, Naruto had to train to even gain the potential to even use these powers which he had within him. To be honest, If he had accepted what Neji had said (or anyone else for that matter), he would have just become a man tormented by the Kyuubi, seeing it as a curse rather than a blessing. He would have spent his life alone, hated and despised upon by others without ever unlocking or even knowing the power which he has within him.

Neji was a slave. He was destined to waste his life for branch family sake, he was rebellious at first, thought it was unfair. Nardo acted as a diplomat, convincing him to be a slave (reconcile with hinata/hiashi) in a way he looked at it as a sacrifice. In the end Neji did just what Hiashi thought he was supposed to be.

Naruto did change destiny though . He ended the brother's feud and established peace

Uh, no. It was stated that Naruto was destined to bring peace to the world. So the feud was destined to end.

Naruto and Sasuke don't really have much in common with Ashura and Indra. That whole parallel was forced.

Naruto would not have been where he is at without his special lineage/genetics. It's been noted a few times that you need to be born with strong chakra genes to host a tailed beast properly. Kurama even said that it's because of Kushina's blood and the fact that he was a jin for so long that he can control his chakra so well. Then there is the Ashura vessel crap he didn't work to control at all.

So he's not much like Ashura, Gai, and Lee. The last two got where they are through pure hardwork.

This. In the end, every achievement was thanks to a shit load of hard work and determination. So what if Naruto had this great heritage which could provide him with power? You could have all the power in the world but would still be weak if you had no idea how to use it. Read above. Without his lineage/genetic that hardwork would have meant nothing.

The message wasn't about changing your destiny it was that you couldn't determine another persons destiny

So if it's a positive thing to the whole humanity is bad? I mean if naruto wasn't there and he wasn't the 'chosen' one, neji and the others would have died.

Tell Guy to protect everyone while sasuke and naruto watch.

Even Neji was forced to die for a shitty pairing due to his destiny, so yes, he was right. This whole destiny and prophecy shit just adds to Kishimot's very long list of "shit i don't care about and retconned completely".
