[Theory] The reason why Stark was Espada No. 1

I honestly think the reason why Aizen made stark Espada No. 1 was because deep down in their hearts they were both lonely, Aizen could empathise with Stark the most thus granting him position one in his army.

I don't think it had anything to do with power, loyalty or trust otherwise he would have made Barragan (arguably the most powerful) or Ulquiorra (most trusted and loyal to Aizen) number one.

I hardly think that the one who planned everything in the bleachverse doesn't know of his subordinates true powers, including Ulquiorra's second release. He's Aizen people. It's obvious that Starrk was the No.1 strongest char. Aizen chose him afterall.

Only in his release 2 form, but Aizen didn't know or kept it a secret, my guess it was the latter(Aizen knows all). That's why Ulquiorra remained 4th. Without his second release though Stark is stronger.

The espada clearly aren't ranked strength wise. That's obvious throughout that whole Hueco Mundo arc. But I do have some ideas.

A)Starrk being Lonely- it's common knowledge that loners make the best leaders. Simply because they value there subordinates more and the position usually means more to them.

B)Barragans Ego- He is the strongest Espada. But he was also the king of Hueco Mundo before Aizen came and was an ******* to Aizen when he came to recruit him. So I think putting Starrk over him may have been a shot at Barragan's ego, to bring him down a few notches.

And my last one is actually similar to your theory of Aizen being able to understand him better than the other espada. But you already have it posted.

He said: "Among the espada, i'm the only one who has reached this second level of release. Not Even Aizen has Seen it yet." He said "Seen", not "Aware". There's no way Aizen doesn't know about this form. Is The Second release exclusive only to Ulquiorra? Nope. Kubo never stated that only Ulquiorra was able to achieve the second release.
The Second release is similar to the Super Saiyan transformations. I'm pretty sure that there are levels beyond the release of the Zanpakuto, it's just that none of the other espada thought about it as much as Ulquiorra did. I mean, they're all insanely OP, now why would they need another power boost? Just imagine Barraggan with a second release. Just my opinion anyways.
