Children are legal property of the parents, meaning their slaves. Until the state decides the parents don't have to provide for the slaves(kids) they are their property. They control his legal rights, they are in charge of manipulating them and punishing them. They can move them around where ever they want, they can choose if they talk to someone or not and when they can leave the house or not. Children are fed and given clothes but even slaves got that. Most slave masters actually thought of their slaves as children, they needed to be taught and told what to do and were their property just like their real kids.

Property is something bought of money; kids aren't bought by their parents, they are born from their parents blood and flesh. Clear difference.

It's true parents control everything about their kids lives, but only at the right age where the kid could take care of himself/herself. Not all parents, believe me. I have cousins who are older than 20 still rely on their parents, and their parents won't let them make a living.

@bold: I partially disagree Benjamin , It's how this world work if we are not mentally strong enough to earn on our own . Parents can support till they good job or good education .. The will to be independence matters here ..

I'm disagreeing in the sense that anyone registered is a number on the stock exchange, owned by corps. Not your parents. Your parents are property too.

As children, we can't take care of ourselves so we need support from our parents but not every parent try to take control over their kids or enslave them like you said and personally i wasn't been told what to do or not and what's right or wrong by my parents either it was because they didn't had knowledge or because they were working parents ( though i think, they should've done that ) but maybe ones haven't been given support by parents know how it's like to live without it while others don't understand the worth of it ( as people appreciate things they doesn't have or never had ) so i think kids shouldn't underestimate things their parents do for them and i also think, if parents can find balance in giving support and making their kids independent people in society that will benefit their kids in the long run .

A normal punishment for a slave (and more generally, "encouragement" for them to work) was being whipped till they bled or being branded with a hot iron, to the point where they could end up mutilated.
