- Got no development in part 2.
- Didn’t confront his Edo father.
- Was killed over a ship that didn’t happen until 2 years later in the story.
- Only Hinata, Lee, and Naruto were shown grieving him.
- TenTen made a joke about his death right after it happened.
- His funeral only got one page while Hiruzen and Asuma got whole chapters to their’s.

I'm going to say yes.

His death was totally unnecessary and its sad Kishi only remembers Hyuga's as NH Plot device

I will always say that he died a HERO for the humanity (and NOT NaruHina at all), thus I don't see what's wrong with that.
Sad, yes, but not bad writing or something.
I'm way more upset that we didn't get a Rinne Balls finale with so many OPed Ootsutsukis and their reincarnations roaming around.

The portrayal in the story was fine, but Kishimotos reasoning for choosing him is utter bullshit considering it literally doesn't play a part in the new movie at all.

I believe so, I think he's more deserving to have the development along with Lee and Shino. If Kishi explored the clan through Neji, the manga would have been more appreciated by a whole lot.

So much for a character that is supposed to be the representation of defying unjust situations, oppression, and pre-decided destinies.
He was pretty much rendered to a pairing device status, which is sad.
So yes, he was disrespected.

Movie is a Pierrot Idea. Kishimoto said in the last interview.
Then i put this movie in "filler" categorie.

Hinata and Naruto named their first born son after him, come on, Neji died honorably and he's free from the Hyuuga BS rules for real now.

I'm going to say yes.

He was not disrespected and here is why:

1. Getting no development is not disrespect because Neji had no real relation to the major elements of the plot. It was mainly the conflicts within Hagoromo's side of the family that led to the events of the series (not Hamura's). Neji did not relate to the bijuus or akautski or the eye of the moon plan or Kaguya or any of the important stuff. Therefore he didn't need any more development in part 2.

2. Neji did not get to choose where he got deployed and the alliance didn't know every specific edo tensei person that was revived. Therefore, neither Neji nor the leaders of the alliance could control the fact that Neji didn't get to see his edo father. This is not disrespect. That is just how it is in war. You can't always pick your battles.

3. The part about the ship is true, but it is also known that people were just rampantly complaining and begging for deaths in the war. Plus, it was foreshadowed by both Nagato (when he said "war, hatred, death and pain are the things you will be facing in coming times") and Kurama (when he said "What will you do if one of your friends gets killed?") that a Konoha 11 member would die in the war. Kishi probably just figured that he could fulfill the foreshadow, fulfill fans' complaints and fulfill the romance aspect all in one go with Neji's death. Therefore it wasn't disrespect (but still sad for Neji).

4. You don't have to have a lot of people grieving for you. It really doesn't matter how many you have to be honest. You're dead after all. Besides, Neji didn't seem to be close to that many people. Therefore it is fitting that only a few people grieved. Therefore, this was not disrespect.

5. I'll admit that Tenten's joke was way too soon. It was the same night that he died for that matter.

6. His funeral only warranted one page. Kishi had other stuff to show, and more people (including named Konoha ninjas) died in the war than just Neji. Shikaku and Inoichi died too, but nobody complains for them.

Summation: Neji was not disrespected.

I'm more disappointed that he didn't get more panel time in part 2. His death definitely could have been handled a lot better (the idea of being impaled by wood isn't the best way to go Lol) but his actual death sequence and speech was ok. That late in the manga I think his death was the furthest his development would go unfortunately
