They don't even have half of the development of SS or even NS.

The only reason NH happened is because SS happened first.

NH isn't developed and manga has a very small panels together and need a movie to explain everything.
Even in chapter 699 NH didn't get any closure like the others random couples.
Sasuke's bad behavior in Part 2 was necessary for plot, but he is redeemed in the end and thats that.

But in fact, Kishi has intended for SS to be paired from a VERY long time, let me explain.

This manga has been going on over the span of 15 years, and we all know romance is not Kishi's focus nor is it his forte, so the development gets low priority and is far apart, thus we tend to forget most of it especially the really old stuff.

Since the beginning Sasuke's character was full of mystery and we soon find out his tragic past and how he is plagued with darkness. Still however he was a comrade and that was when a lot of positive development between him and Sakura took place.

As time passed his curse of hatred started to grow, triggered by Orochimaru's influence and curse seal, that was when Sakura saw him fall into darkness with her own eyes. This would define her development with Sasuke up until 698.

Like you mentioned Naruto and Hinata's development showed them grow closer together, while Sasuke and Sakura had a lot of negative interactions which should tear them apart. If you look at things face value then yes you are right, but this is a very superficial deduction of their relationship which ignores some key points.

Sakura's relationship and development is defined by her trying to save him from darkness and enduring his hate, she made it her mission since their encounter with Oro in the forest.

Sasuke on the other hand always hid his emotions and kept trying to sever his bonds and push away those close to him, that is why he never reciprocated Sakura until his change after his fight with Naruto in 698.

Fair enough. Yea, I guess the problem is how rushed the end was. If he was shown redeeming himself with her and if we had a basis for her romantic love and devotion I'd be able to accept it.

I still believe Kishi intended to only make NH canon, but you absolutely make some valid points.

EDIT: these Tubmlr posts are good....but none of them prove Sasuke has ROMANTIC feelings for Sakura. There was NEVER any question that he cared for her. But romantically? I'm not convinced. I still say Kishi threw in the kid for part 3.

EDIT 2: man...all the analysis in these tumblr posts based on faulty translations. There's a big difference between "thanks to you" and "thanks to that" (referring to his eye ability in VIZ)...in reference to Obito and Sakura saving him. .....or "see you when I get back" and "maybe next time" in VIZ when he's leaving the village.....But that might be splitting hairs
