Can't understand how Natsu's magic can even come close to being effective against Mard, when it was not effective just 2 chapters ago and not just that, but it feels like Natsu's magic is even more effective than Gray's devil slaying magic.

What? His magic couldn't even scratch Mard Geer.

Mard is powerful, but lame villain. Except for Kaguya (Naruto), or some of the Sternritters (Bleach), I can't think of lamest villian.

Just because he was able to hit him does not mean he had any effect on him. Mard Geer was literally unphased. Devil Slaying Magic is only good when it makes contact with the Demon, or his curse. Mard Geer did well to avoid all his Demon Slaying Magic, had they landed, they would have done significant damage, unlike Natsus attacks.
