Maybe not elemental KKG, but certainly eye techniques might be that way?

Think about it. Both NaruHina's and SasuSaku's kids lack Byakugan and Sharingan. Why? Because they are not pure Uchiha/ Hyuuga. Only pure bloods get the KKG. What do we know about interbreeding among family members? They often have birth defects, all negative ones. We know the clan is essentially a giant family and Kakashi likened Neji and Hinata to distant cousins. So are all eye technique KKG essentially birth defects resulting of only pure bloods? By this I would mean a half Uchiha is very different than, say, a half Saiyan where a half Saiyan is essentially just as capable as a pure Saiyan while a half Uchiha may not be.

In addition, how strong are the backgrounds of these clans really? Before NaruHina and SasuSaku did we ever see half Uchiha or half Hyuuga? Not from what I saw. It seemed every clan member before these two couples married in their own clan. Does that just mean that Kishi didn't spend much time making these clans realistic? I mean think how rare it would be for everyone in those clans to never marry outside their family when in the Leaf Village, yet we had no evidence till now. I think it means Kishi didn't think about the clan system as much as we may have credited him for.

What are your thoughts on Kishi's development of these clans? Are clan traits like eye techniques essentially blown up birth defects? Please share your thoughts and thanks for reading as always.

I'd think it only comes up to chakra control and the type of chakra you use to make a technique. If a shinobi could somehow obtain and produce the special chakra needed to use the sharingan,he could probably be able to use technique limited to the sharingan. The reasons KKG aren't seen being used is that it is virtually impossible to obtain enough of the prerequisites to achive KKG techniques.Doujutsu-only techs are already hard enough for those lucky enough to get the eyes, other who wish to gain those techniques may take their whole life in trying to master those techs and never be able to do it.Just my grain of salt.

Clan members have the same ancestry but not enough for a child to have birth defects if they were to marry.
Okay, I understand this idea and I used to agree with you on it. Thing is, what are you basing this assumption off of? The fact that there seems to be several dozen if not 100 or more members of the clan? What facts from the manga actually confirm how large the clan was? What makes you believe they are not that related? The fact that Kakashi said they were distant cousins? Thing is its been left very vague and in the end we have to assume they are related on a level closer to cousins then anything. If that's the case, birth defects could be very possible and eye techinques might be an exaggerated birth defect.

I disagree with the fact that just anyone can awaken Sharingan by figuring out the chakra needed for it and utilizing it. Its in the brain and cannot be created by a non uchiha. KKG can potentially be learned as Oonoki was not related to his previous Kage. Thing is I'm mainly talking about eye techniques and I don't see how people outside the clan could ever obtain them.

The fact that it's a clan means that it was large enough (until the massacre at least). Also, the eyes originated from the S06P not from birth defects.

No their not defects because they are genetic anomalies that do not detriment the child. That's like say someone born extrodinarily taller than their parents a birth defect.

The leaks speaks about Kaguya being the daughter of an Ootsutsuki and a Hyuuga.

I don't know man... it seems that's false.

All kekkei genki likely originated from Kaguya and the powers/mutations she gained from eating the fruit. They aren't birth defects, however, they are genetic traits passed down by the Ootsutsukis and their kin or possibly the chakra Hagoromo gave to the people. However, that doesn't mean they will be born with a body with the properties to handle it. For example, Kimimaro appeared to be the only one in his clan with the dead bone pulse kekkei Genki, however, for reasons unknown, he became very sick and died. It appeared to me like his kekkei genki was becoming unstable and like a cancer to his body that kept taking over, breaking down or reproducing cells uncontrollably. This may have happened to Hashirama as well considering how incredibly powerful mokuton is, that the life force that powers it must come from somewhere other than just senjutsu and the fact that it takes on the form and properties of the shinju. However I don't believe it became unstable to his body like dead bone pulse, I believe Hashirama used it too much and it exhausted his life span.

I believe the mangekyou sharingan makes uchihas sick and blind after a while because their yang chakra and stamina are not sufficient enough to handle it. However, by combining their chakras with one of their kin, it increases these capacities. Recall Obito used Kamui sooooo many times but he never had any side effects to it, probably because of Hashirama's yang chakra and healing powers.

The leaks speaks about Kaguya being the daughter of an Ootsutsuki and a Hyuuga.

Kaguya is the leader of an alien race who came to earth in search of the Shinju to take its power according to the databook.

Hmm you guys are right, since the ancestors we know had Byakugan/ Sharingan its not a birth defect in the sense that I'm suggesting. Rather, the eye techniques were simply an inherited trait of a being of unknown origins. So in a sense, the people of these clans are not normal humans but rather have a trait of these ancient beings.

Having strong ocular powers is not a birth defect, its an extraordinary genetic trait. Most probably the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans were quite big and could manage marrying within the clan.

Also we don't know for sure whether their kids have the powers or not, especially Sarada since her eye matches Sasuke's normal eye. Naruto and Hinata's kids might still have the byakugan but also have pupils since they are only half-hyuuga.

The most likely scenario is that the Kekkai Genkai are recessive traits that, more often than not, aren't expressed in children with parents from outside the clan. Or it could be a matter of incomplete dominance or co-dominance. Either way, Gregor Mendel would be proud.

Exactly.

OP: Where is it said that Hinata's mother was from the Hyuga clan before her marriage? And Sasuke's mother?..

Salada could very well have sharingans.
Bolt and Hiwamari have no Byakugans and that's shocking , is there something about dominance of genes in cause?
Are Uzumaki genes more dominant than Hyuga's?

Sharingan isn't like byakugan. No one is born with it and it requires traumatic to actually unlock. And from I understand, some Uchiha cannot unlock it at all while others can, but cannot get the mangekyou.

Byakugan may be dormant, or the mix of the Uzumaki/Senju/Ashura and Hyuuga may manifest an all new doujutsu over time with unknown properties. Hinata must be a very pure Hyuuga as well considering she's a descendant of the head family and the clan princess.
