Are you sure this is by kishi? I don't think so . (i remember reading the article but its not kishi who said it)

Anyway

He has mentioned that there will be "heavy interactions between Sakura and sasuke" during the movie

So they are going to show us sasuke and sakura making salad :skorm:

No
So we all know it was onsided
i just stated NH was non existing till chap 699 becoz Naruto didn't have romantic feeling for her :|

NaruHina still had its moments though. One can look back and say they were great moments. So its not like this pairing is a asspull or anything. It was hinted for a while in the manga.

Than why does NaruHina need interactions to be canon? I am not in denial at all. What is there to be in denial about?

I like ShikaTema to don't get me wrong. But saying its a perfect pairing does not make sense to me. Because there are obvious reasons why it is canon to some people. Other pairings had more substance to work with. This pairing did not. So its fair to say it was a ok pairing.

NaruHina was expected to need more interactions by the fandom simply because there were other options. The second biggest pairing fandom in Japan is dedicated to NaruSasu. The biggest hetero fandom in Japan after SasuSaku is actually NaruSaku. People felt divided over which pairing to choose, therefore more is needed to confirm one for Naruto.

Naruto is also main character, it is a given that more of his love life should be shown than a side character's like Shikamaru's. When a writer decides to make romance something relevant to the life of a main character, he needs to go in depth with it. The majority of this story (at least 50%... the other 50% being for Sasuke) is dedicated to Naruto and his ambitions. His romantic life is a part of that, so elaboration is technically a must.

ShikaTema is considered to be the most ideal pairing in Naruto mainly for the phrase "Less is more". It was shown just enough to gain a large fandom, but not too much so that people would find something to criticize over it. There are no murder attempts or the boy going down darkness like there is for SasuSaku. There is no third wheel like there was for NaruHina when Naruto had a crush on Sakura. It is a very plain, simple, nice pairing.

All the interactions between Shikamaru and Temari have been respectable as well. There are no genuine insults. They admire each other's capabilities. There is no plausible reason as to why Temari should not be with Shikamaru and vice-versa. Shikamaru and Temari are also both minor characters, so the little interaction is completely expected. The story barely showed them in general.

There's also the factor of there not being an alternate pairing if Kishimoto chose to go down the romantic path for Shikamaru and Temari. Temari has never been hinted in this entire manga to end up with another boy, all her significant interactions with boys (outside of her family) were with Shikamaru. Shikamaru didn't respect any girl as much as he did Temari. There was no competition, only crack ships. Therefore, nothing to debate on. It was a given that this pairing would happen and blatantly obvious for these reasons.

Which is why it made the anticipation of who Naruto would end up with more interesting. I liked that. But this is a fair point you made here. In fact a good one.

Kishi himself admitted that he failed in the romance aspect cause of shyness. So me disagreeing with this would be against what he has said. However I am ok with how things have ended as long as the couple is happy. I would also wait for the movie before making any further claims of how shitty the romance has been. Although in the manga it did not really light anyone's fire.

This most ideal pairing you speak of. Had all symptoms of being a trashy pairing. The only reason it did it not get it was cause of less screen time. I am not trying to hate on this pairing or anything. I am just saying that its just as bad as many of them. People just like it cause as you stated its plain, simple, nice pairing.

I can understand that they had great chemistry. But once again it comes down to lack of screen time. I mean lets say if Shikamaru was given more screen time than he got. And he spent all those times with Ino instead of Tamari. Would people not pair him up with Ino?

My point is just because its a simple pairing does not make it the best pairing. If people wanted a pairing like that with Naruto. Than they would have not gotten a surprise factor.

@bold: How much screen time did Tamari even have?

So is that the kind of pairing people would be happy with in Naruto? A pairing with no competition?

This is a shonen and romance has never been a main thing. I just replied to your post explaining why ShikaTema is the least hated out of all the canon pairings from ch 700. I'm neutral to all the pairings myself, it's childish to be upset over it. It's canon and it is what it is. And it has very little relevance to the main plot anyhow.

It had no symptoms of a trashy pairing. The only thing anyone can criticize it for is lack of screen time... which is a given since they're both support characters.

What negatives does this pairing have? None other than that. With every other pairing, people can type up a list of flaws. With ShikaTema, you can't. However boring this may be.

I can understand that they had great chemistry. But once again it comes down to lack of screen time. I mean lets say if Shikamaru was given more screen time than he got. And he spent all those times with Ino instead of Tamari. Would people not pair him up with Ino?

Maybe yes, maybe no. The ShikaIno shippers completely ditched their ship the moment Ino dreamed of only Sai and Sasuke and Shikmaru dreamed only of his parents and Temari. Shikamaru was never known to have a crush on Ino. Ino never was interested in him as far as romance goes. No, people wouldn't ship them if they had more screen time together, since they were confirmed to have a sibling-like, comrade relationship.

My point is just because its a simple pairing does not make it the best pairing. If people wanted a pairing like that with Naruto. Than they would have not gotten a surprise factor.

@bold: How much screen time did Temari even have?

People consider it to be the best not because it's exciting. It was predictable and somewhat boring. They think it's the most healthy one since there was no negative or awkward interaction between them. People like that.
She had less than Hinata and Naruto, that's for sure.

So is that the kind of pairing people would be happy with in Naruto? A pairing with no competition?

No. They're looking for one that has no bad interaction, anything cheesy, and is respectable. ShikaTema fits this well.

You repeatedly mention Naruto pairings. People are only complaining about NH if they are a) Not concerned with romance in general, so the fact that the main character is going to be shown with a love life bothers them for whatever odd reason or b) Another pairing shipper (Naru x Whoever, Hinata x Whoever, etc). Just because NH is susceptible to criticism doesn't make it a bad pairing. Since there were different fandoms, some angry fans obsessed with minor things like who gets with who is a given.

It doesn't mean that NH is a bad pairing. People just like to nitpick, and NH is slightly possible to complain about, unlike ST.

Lol You don't get it. Its fair enough to say that it did not have any negative symptoms. When it did not have much screen time. But that does not mean there is no possibility of it not having any. To me its a average basic pairing but if I was to go deeper into it. Than the distance factor would also play a role here. Shikamaru lives in the Leaf village and spends all of his time there. While Tamari in the sand. How is there no possibility of them having someone else come in between them? I mean I know the story never displayed it. But realistically this is what would have been a conflict in this pairing.

So what your trying to say is that, if Shikamaru was known to have a crush on Ino. People would ship Ino with Shikamaru? Only reason they were never paired together, was cause of Shikamaru never having a crush on Ino. Nor Ino having a crush on Shikamaru? Hence why they were seen as brother and sister?

Hmmm.. I see, so they should have done this with Naruto and Sakura than.

But from a romantic stand point. Is it really the best?

No. They're looking for one that has no bad interaction, anything cheesy, and is respectable. ShikaTema fits this well.

Hard to find one like that with more screen time.

For the purposes of the story, no nothing negative has happened between them. Given their personalities and how they always respected each other, the worst thing would probably be a small disagreement between them that couples usually have, but get over. That is normal. There's still nothing like murder attempts like SasuSaku, or ignorance like NaruHina, or punching like NaruSaku.

It's not a problem, since the only reason Temari stayed in Suna was because she was her brother's body guard. In early Shippuden, she even went as far as to state that Gaara doesn't really need body guards as Kazekage, since his sand protects him wherever he is anyway. The distance isn't a problem, since in ch 700 it was revealed that she moved to Konoha to live with Shikamaru and her brothers can visit any time they want.

Yes, pretty much. If either had a crush on the other, then you'd see numerous people from the ShikaIno fandom complaining that they should have been together since they were in each other's vicinity more. But, they didn't like each other in that way and it was made clear. Therefore, no one can complain with such an argument.

But from a romantic stand point. Is it really the best?

Probably not. It's actually not a "lovey-dovey" relationship. Just practical.
They can appeal to a wide audience since many people in the Naruto series fandom don't like love in shonen, so something that is basic like ShikaTema is good to them.

Hard to find one like that with more screen time.

Your sticking to the story aspect of things. While I was trying to make you think outside of the box and have you imagine a scenario like this one. I guess it never worked so no point of continuing.

Some times you find answers in boring places. Kishi should have taken a lesson from ShikaTami and done it with his main character pairings. I guess you only fail to succeed. He's got a chance now to make up for it. Lets see how he does with this movie.

Probably not. It's actually not a "lovey-dovey" relationship. Just practical.

Once again Kishi you should have made Naruto's interactions this way.

I am not saying you are wrong...actually makes senses that Naruto feelings change as he matures. However, you should post the source link because people often misquote and/or misinterpret kishimoto interviews on NB.

I'm having a strange feeling that even by the end of the movie, the Nauto/Hinata relationship will feel rushed. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm going to be honest...I liked them salty...it inspired my new catch phrase. Would you like some fries with that salt?

I think there are better things to do than complain about someones failures.

He failed in many aspect of things in this manga I admit. But its still human nature to not live up to everyones expectations.

Such as? I'm guessing you really can't think of any since that's basically what you're doing right now.
