Case in point, shooting for ending your manga on a particular chapter guarantees one thing; that being it ensures the manga was either forced to end too early or was extended for that very purpose.
Of course, part of my point is that I think Kishi did alright timing the ending like he did (I feel any real Naruto fan would be very satisfied with this ending), but I think its clear he extended the manga for that purpose. I think while extending it, he opened too many doors that he failed to close. Sasuke's unused secret jutsu gifted by Hashirama? Did Kishi fail to make time for it? Orochimaru's true intentions for attacking the Leaf? Kishi set it up as a mystery but left it hanging. Did he think he had time for it but failed to incorporate it simply due to making sure he ended it on 700?
Basically what ending on chapter 700 did was create a stigma of unrest in my mind. I doubt any sane Manga writer would suggest to another to end on 1 chapter in particular. Surely they would suggest to simply end it naturally without worrying which chapter it ended on? I think so. Now I'm not suggesting he always intended to end on 700, but once he got a decent way through the war, he realized he might end near that point and did his best to time it to end that way.
To say the least, I feel it was truly reckless on Kishi's part to do so. I mean was ending on an even 100 chapter mark more important than doing his manga justice? I'm really in aw over this. I honestly feel it was very immature of Kishi to do put such an importance on it. Share your thoughts on the matter.
As for the manga's ending, I feel 700 was less of a fan service and more of a Shonen style resolution that was called for. You need to see the next generation before moving on, or at least a timeskip with changes in the protagonists' lives. In addition, I think it was really important for him to release 699 and 700 at the same time. If he released them separately, we might expect a normal chapter on 700 rather than a resolution in the future like we got. Kishi did really well with it. Thanks for reading as always.
