There's absolutely no point whatsoever for this rule. Characters, especially FICTIONAL, are intangible and abstractions, they're not real tangible people. They have no emotions, they aren't real, nor sentient, yet we treat them as if they're all that and sacrosanct as to prohibit the bashing of them. What stupidity. People in Europe bash religions, which is a far more volatile issue and is something sacred to millions and even billions of people all over the world, yet with the exception of Muslims no one really cares. Why should they, when they have no right to curtail someone's freedom of speech just because they don't like it. Even hate speech is allowed in many parts of the world. I'm not insinuating we allow hate speech or religion bashing, however character bashing shouldn't be a problem. If over zealous fanboys get irascible that's their problem for getting worked up over the insulting of a piece of ink. Why should we placate other fanbases when they have no right in the first place to even find issue with a character being bashed? No forum, and I mean no forum anime/manga/fiction has contrived such a dumb no character bashing rule except this forum. That's because every other forum knows that bashing a character isn't as big of a deal as to warrant curtailment.

Another issue with the rule are the vague and obscure parameters regarding the rule. A lot of people have their threads closed simply for objectively criticizing a character and that becomes invoked to close the thread. A lot of times character bashing has been invoked to close threads that merely have negative connotations about a character. So what? If a character is spoken of in a not so pleasant manner then why not refute and rebut the OP instead of getting Butthurt. So what if someone says Sasuke is weak, or naruto is a terrible main character, or hinata is a stalker, even if the arguments are dumb that's why there's room for debate and discussion. Banning something as vague as character bashing doesn't solve anything.

I agree, it's really an unnecessary rule. People that get butthurt pver character bashing just shouldn't be on here, or just don't take part in the thread.

Imagine all of the useless threads that would appear about how bad a certain character is. It would be a mess.

I still don't believe this'll happen. Cases can go very severe over character bashing. It's once been reported that a person killed themselves over a pairing bash argument. Staff will very most likely say no to this so if I were you I'd character bash somewhere else where the rule isn't available. It's even better when you don't character bash, because even though they don't have feelings, the person that likes that "character" will feel hurt. This forum is supposed to be a safe forum and it's going good the way it already is.

What's the point on expressing your dislike by creating dozens of threads bashing something fictional. I honestly don't mind if people don't like the same characters as me(no one should either). But, on the base people tend to shove it done your face about how much they hate that character.

Would you really like to see this base if that rule wasn't implemented?
What if I told you I've seen the base not implementing this rule, from 2009-2012, which were the best and most exciting years of NB. Don't be fooled by my recent join date, I've been frequenting and following this site since 2009 and know that the base had actual activity going on without this rule.

But it's perfect fine to make tons of threads about how great a character is? People always want the positive, cheeky side, but never the brasher, negative side. If you can have threads talking about how great a character is, then you should have threads about their faults. Especially since people pass off mere critiquing as bashing.

While continuously posting threads about how op a character is, is annoying. The positive side is preferred because the negative she be obvious to the one that likes the character. If they can't see the faults then let them be, forcing why you dislike their fav is pointless.
