[Discussion] Have you suspected that Itachi might be a good guy before it was revealed?

I remember back in 2007 when It still was not know that itachi is a good guy I already such suspicion. I thought it was weird how he did not kill kakahi hatake when he could in part 1 encounter. Also all the stuff he was saying to kisame'lets not start a fullscale battle to cause comotion' I thought to myself Yeach right! You could kill anyone...
He just seemed to merciful torwards his enemies. The stuff which he was saying was too thought out and reasonable for an evil character. I somehow suspected that he might be good or atleast not a proper bad guy.
What about you guys? Did you suspect itachi might be good before it was confirmed? Were you surprised to know that he is a good guy?

nah kishi himself didn't even know he was gonna make itachi good when he first appeared. itachis personality change from part 1 to part 2 makes that clear. in part 1 he was just a mean guy. he belittled his seniors and called their jutsu weak while in part 2 he started praising people on their jutsu skills.

also kisame said itachi overusing his eyes was bad and he had already cast tsukyiomi on kakashi and his maximum usage of MS is 3 jutsu and he's done so with one use depleted i doubt a (back then evil itachi) wanted to risk fighting more incoming jonin and anbu even if kisame was with him

i expected something to be going on cause he killed his own clan but i was certain he wasnt good because. even though he couldve just used tsukuyomi to knock out kakashi he didnt he instead mind raped him for 3 days. even though he couldve had himself and kisame use a simple transformation jutsu so they wont look suspicious he didnt. made sasuke watch his parents and entire family die... twice. tried to kidnap naruto. was going to let kisame cut off narutos legs.

And Itachi being a martyr for the village is one of the cornerstones of the entire Naruto storyline, u rly think kishi didn't plan this from panel 1 on page 1 of chapter 1???

Itachis story is not something u just add on one day because ur feelings

left sasuke alive ,amaterasu'd the toad's stomach but left jiraya , naruto and sasuke alive , did not kill kakashi,asuma or kurenai , left team 7 alive again , seemed pretty calm during the uchiha brothers fight .
I knew he was a badass character and had mysteries so I supported him weather as good or evil

Once I read the flashback during Naruto and Sasuke's fight I began to suspect it, but then Minato got introduced a few chapters later. I stopped thinking about it until I noticed how he acted with the other Akatsuki members during the rescue Garra arc. The 180 he did from caring older brother to physco sociopath was odd. I kept wondering what were his reasons for joining a group of terrorists? Pretty clever by Kishi.

I thought something was up in 2006, yes. It was all too odd during the flashbacks and how tense the clan was with Shisui's death. But apparently it was more apparent to eastern readers than western. Itachi's monologue in the street when torturing Sasuke (the run cling to life one) was apparently full of buzz words regarding honor that Western audiences wouldn't pick up because of lack of culture understanding. By the time Kishimoto was drawing that, I'm sure he had in mind Itachi's real motivations.
