[Spoilers] Amber Lead: Reference to Japan's Cadmium Poisoning

In the recent One Piece chapter, it highlighted an event or illness known as the "Amber Lead Syndrome" that appeared in the country of Frevance, where Law grew up. People mined the white ore, but that came with a consequence. It was like a luxury item and almost everything was made out of this substance.


Was basically like poison and was a hereditary disease, making people turn white or have white spots and they eventually die from it.


People who were affected by it will have shorter life spans, and their offspring will have shorter lifespans than the parent.




And interestingly enough, though not too surprising, it was also based off a real even that happened in Japan, the industrial revolution in the early 20th century. Mining of valuable minerals and release of cadmium by operations was common. The substance leaked into rivers, soil, etc. and caused

I read that too It's very plausible, and knowing that makes me believe more on the fact that One Piece is much close to Japanese hearts in various ways. I remember the comments from the Japanese fans, when they were asked about why they loved OP, and their answers mostly said One Piece felt very near to them.

Cadmium poisoning was one of the worse diseases occurred by excessive pollution. The effect was pretty nasty U_U
