The picture is angel'd upwards. Everything looks smaller from that height. Kishi would highlight something like that. It's kind of important for an author to illustrate the fight. Just sayin.

Wait I can't really see where the sword is. All I can see are a couple of little nub things that could have been the sword but they look to short. Or is that what you mean - that the nubs are the sword it just broke?

You could also apply this logic to explain the missing tail as well. Each tail of the bijuu avatar has a line running down the tail, yet in the pic there is only six present. Does that mean kurama only has 6 tails currently? Either their folded under one another or due to the height kishi isn't putting all the detail into them (to emphasis the height). If kurama had lost a tail kishi would illustrate that. It's kinda important for the author to illustrate the fight. Just sayin.
