I understand why a lot of people like One Piece and I know why Naruto is not a very good manga

But IMO, One Piece is a bit overrated

In essence, it is like Fairytail but it does a better job of using "Nakama power" in subtle ways. Also, One Piece does not use dat much fanservice to move the plot but it does reuse storylines from past arcs

But what separates One Piece and Naruto does not come down to plot. It comes to down to great written characters

To me, One Piece does have good written characters but theres no character who stands out. In Naruto, it is different because there are some characters who are even bigger than the plot as well as Kishi.

Pretty much, almost every character got the same level of development in One Piece. No one character depends on another. They have their own personality and appearance. But theres not one character that screams masterpiece.

In Naruto, u have characters like Obito, Itachi, Oro who are excellent written characters and they stick out like a sore thumb. They are memorable.

IMO, theres a few memorable characters in One Piece like Ace and Whitebeard, but thats mostly due to the plot helping them. In others, the plot made these characters. In Naruto, some characters made the plot.

To be honest, there was one character back in the day who I thought was going to be memorable and it was this person.

Hands down, Usopp was the best written character. At that time, Water 7 arc was getting really good because the amount of development Usopp had and I was impressed. He was the MVP of dat entire arc hands down and nobody was close. He was great. He was the underdog. He was relatable. He was awesome. I expected great things from him.

But then Oda, took all dat development and shoved it down the toilet and made Usopp revert back to the ***** character.

That to me is the closest One Piece got to an excellent well written character.

in all honesty, whitebeard is my favourite character in one piece, he was a pretty important character who didn't get much time in the manga, but his death is the one that made everyone get the feels coz it was so badass

OP has a larger quantity of well written character while Naruto has more quality written character........is that right? Well, yeah I can agree on that. The fact that Luffy isn't always the star of everything, that everyone has there own goals and responsibilities on the crew is awesome.
Even outside the crew we have awesome characters
Crocodile
Doflamingo
Law
Aokiji
Akainu
FujiTora
I loved Gin too

I mean OP world of characters is really huge and he tries his hardest to make most of them have an importance to the story, and not just in that arc. Characters in OP are still relevant LONG after they r introduced.

I kinda prefer things Oda's way, but that is just my opinion. Anyway OP>>Naruto

Are you caught up to where the manga is now? Cause Oda has been making Usopp look great lately and is actually showing signs of character progression, turning his lies in to truths. Usopp was regressing towards his b***h character at first but has been improving lately, and came through real clutch for Luffy due to his fear of forgetting his comrades. It was something he didn't want to happen again and then made sure it didn't with his own power. It was epic.

But I agree, OP has better characters than Naruto but IMO, there are more reasons why I like OP better than Naruto than just cause of characters. Oda's style appeals to me more so naturally I'm gonna say it's better.

I liked the first half of your post, it was great.
Yeah water 7 usop was great, but Oda like deviating from plot too much and that was what ruined that usop moment.

OP also have some unpleasant features as well and that turns people off. Features like
(1) The art style
(2) Slow and boring plot
(3) Long, boring and irrelevant flash backs
(4) Some annoying characters like Sanji and Nami.

The list could go on. But baring all the negetives, it's still readable and I would recommend it to everyone.

Boring plot? AW hell naw, Naruto is supossed to have an awesome plot, wasnt OP known most for its awesome story telling? and u actually shit on its main thing that stand out above other manga's, thats way too biased.

OT: Obito is an well written memorable char? XD

Of course he cant focus too much on each character, his world is way too huge compared to the tiny world kishi has.

There are no memorable chars in OP? Doflamingo screams for masterpiece, idk what manga u reading tho.

The reason why one piece has better character development is because it's a long ass manga

I wasn't really thinking about Naruto when I made that post, so there was no bias there.

What I ment was most of the story arcs are slow paced and repetitive. Thus making the story boring.

That's not really true I think
A lot of side characters who only appear in one certain arc or flashback are great as well

Like Fisher tiger.. This guy is really a masterpiece in my opinion, the depth to this character , everything about him is just really well thought out
Same with people like Calgara and Noland or Wiper, Kohza, Tom-san

The art style is what puts me off the most. I could not even bare one episode of it cause of that art style. Also the theme of pirates is over done concept in America. So seeing a dude wanting to become a Pirate King really does not attract me much.

One thing I do respect though. If what people here said is true about One Piece. That every character gets a shot at showing there skills in a Fairy Tail type of way. I prefer that over what Naruto did with K-11.

I suspected that. I on the other hand like the manga art, its is really cool. Let me ask you, are you talking about the anime or the manga?

I would also feel so as well.

True Oda tries to give everybody enough showings as much as possible especially the main characters.
But it leads to a lot of boring and irrelevant story arcs and that's what is trying to turn me off.

I am talking about the Anime. The only manga I read is of Naruto. Otherwise I am a Anime guy.

Does Luffy get the main fights? I don't mind that, at least we get to see some more variety for a change. I feel a whole cast of relevant characters is more better than a few relevant characters. The thing that disappoints me about Naruto the most is that each character that was shown actually had potential to develop there powers further. I wanted to see them develop and grow. Instead we only two main characters who actually did through out the series.

Oh then I would advise you to go for the manga instead, the art there is much, much better.

Yeah luffy gets most of the boss fights. Well if you like it that way too then its cool. All in all I would edge you to give the manga a shot although its over 700 chapters.

I have tried repeatedly to read and/or watch One Piece, since so many people recommend it. I make it to Sanji's character and that's where my interest plummets.

Yeh that guy is annoying and he doesn't get any better. I would edge you not to miss this solely because of him. You can simply skip any of his panels when they show up. That's what i always do.
