If itachi were to awaken Rinnegan he would need

1: Sasuke (his brother's eyes) for EMS and as a bonus those eyes have indra chakra in them
2: DNA from Either Naruto or Hashirama (Ashura reincarnates)

Then he would awaken the Rinnegan.

Then heaven help the NV if Itachi were to succeed in this.

He said hashiramas cells and chakra.
And it is common sense now that hashiramas cells effects were a result of the ashura chakra, he doesn't have magic cells.

This right here ^ though it kind of surprises me that Madara wasn't aware of this as he did read every inch of the Uchiha Tablet...But then Black Zetsu did alter it (somehow without the sharingan) So he may have omitted the part of Indra and AShura out of it.

He wouldn't have the stamina either to even use it to its full potential, most techs (after multiple uses) would be too strenous on his body.

After using his Amaterasu he could go and absorb it back.
He could also make a field of it that lasts 7 days, and in battle when running low on chakra he could summon some to absorb.

And the mechanical path would possibly eliminate his illness.
