This attack is very helpful, because once you are caught inside, you are immediately burned by the ash. Also, if the opponent is caught inside and takes a breath, his lungs are filled with the burning ash, causing them to choke. Only if they are immediately taken out of the cloud will they survive. Asuma can also click his teeth once the cloud engulfs his enemy, and the entire cloud ignites in an explosion.
