Oho, ooohhhh this just awful! The 4th Kazekage was Orochimaru the whole time, the guy who just got helluva lot of hype! He's daaaangerous! If only Lord Hokage could stop one of those four we could join in the fight and protect him! If only we could, oh I don't know, enter the building we're all standing on and blow out the roof with paper bombs, thereby creating an opening to enter the battlefield and help Lord Hokage.​

If they destroy the building the Sound 4 will have nothing to sit on so they will lose their position and the barrier would be cancelled it doesn't make any sense that the Anbu just stood there and watched when they could have done that or helped the other shinobi fend of the Sand and Sound ninjas.

Kabuto was somewhere else with Baki or Kakashi I think.

And dammit, they could have done that when Hiruzen used RDS! One of them could entered the field and attacked Orochimaru, distracting him from fighting for his soul!

Being unable to break a high-level barrier =/= being dumb.
Each one had their position and i assume they followed a pre determined protocol. The enemy was simply more skilled and competent in that situation.
The Sound 4 and Oro had the whole situation very well planned, that's all.

Each one had their position and i assume they followed a pre determined protocol. The enemy was simply more skilled and competent in that situation.
The Sound 4 and Oro had the whole situation very well planned, that's all.

They didn't have to break the barrier, the barrier wasn't covering the ground. They could have bypassed the barrier through blowing up the ceiling Orochimaru and Hiruzen were standing on.
