how does totsuka oneshot something that is hovering hundreds of meters in the sky and is out of reach

It's a hard fight, but Itachi has ways to take him down; he has no counter to e.g. Amaterasu, Sharingan: Genjutsu, Tsukuyomi, Totsuka no Tsurugi etc.

I also don't see how Gaara's sand reacts to Itachi; especially if he was faster than both B and KCM Naruto (in combat, although the former was also overpowered in raw speed too). Fallacy of him reaction to Amaterasu is just fallacy if at best he could do was react to Enton projectiles. After closing distance, Itachi can trap him in Sharingan: Genjutsu or if necessary, use his finger to activate Ephemeral.​

Gaara's sand might be a counter to Susanoo and Amaterasu (depends if it is fast enough), but he will easily fall for a genjutsu (like finger genjutsu).

Itachi ends it with either Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi. Sand sensing could be a counter to Genjutsu, but Itachi can simply confuse this tactic by the use of Bunshins. I doubt he'd even need to bring out the Susano'o.​

Itachi is yanked out of susanoo with moderate ease. Genjutsu requires itachi to make eye contact which isnt happening with a air borne gaara who has itachi on the defense the entire time.. And by the spamming of all these jutsu by itachi, he quickly drains his stamina and gaara crushes him.

This might be a dumb question, but could itachi use tsukuyomi on the third eye, resulting in gaara being hit with it?
Anyway, gaara is a direct counter for itachi unless he uses suiton and can peg the right clone with totsuka

Heavenly Illumination will easily break through Gaara's armor and go straight to his flesh. The black flames already tore through this amount of Gaara's sand almost instantly

Itachi needs more than his ribcage. With that alone he will get crushed painfully. Totsuka is not stretching that far. No eye contact needed. Is that sword actually fast? You know? The way gaara spams, itachi won't keep up(maybe). Itachi will easily get dragged out of susanoo. Don't think he would use it in the beginning. Gaara can easily change a battlefield that wide into his own meaning it wouldn't be hard to take itachi from under the susanoo, sand tsunami should start that off. And gaara can fly. Goodness. I almost forgot.

The armor isn't made to be a hardy defense, it just takes away damage from the technique being used on the user. And then it cracks. The rest I'm not so sure about. Also, a punch is blunt force, flames are...idk, extremely burning hot. I doubtthe armor would fall to fflames.
