He never committed treason against Konoha. In fact, he's done (or tried to do) a lot for the village: he sent Sai to assassinate Sasuke Uchiha, a rogue ninja that posed a threat to the village; he, along with Hiruzen, Koharu, and Homura, ordered Itachi to kill his clan to prevent a civil war in Konoha, for the sake of the village; he fought to the death against Sasuke Uchiha, who posed a threat to the village more than ever; he attempted to appoint himself head of the Shinobi Alliance to establish Konoha authority over the other villages. He teamed up with Hanzo to kill the Akatsuki, whom he viewed as a threat (this horribly backfired though, but in hindsight Danzo had no way of knowing). He did the dirty work for Konoha since no one else would. Yes, he was evil towards other countries and tried to dominate the Shinobi World but he always did whatever was best (or what he thought was best) for Konoha.
My only problem is that he forced members of Root to fight and kill each other, like Sai and his brother. That's just bad on a whole different level, it's basically what Blood Mist Village did.
Basically, Danzo was a bad guy in the big picture but he wasn't a bad guy towards Konoha.

His best interests were for the Leaf... sure, I can agree to that. However, I have my reservations about the character. Without Danzo's intervention in the Rain, Hanzo and the Akatsuki likely would've established a modicum of peace and could've served as an example of what unity yields in a time of warfare (at least based on what was shown in the anime).
He exploited a young Kabuto Yakushi, turned him more or less into a spy only to eventually have him killed off, or attempt to do so along with the woman Kabuto looked up to.
Yes, it is sad what he did to Kabuto and Nono. But imagine what would have happened if Kabuto ever got caught. Imagine the damage that would have caused to Konoha. They knew too much.
It's my understanding that Danzo, during the attack on the leaf by Kurama had suggested to Hiruzen to keep the Uchiha uninvolved in the village's efforts to defeat him, which would later stain the Uchiha clan's name and further their hatred for the Leaf. Also, at least in the anime... Danzo would've had Hiruzen assassinated; his childhood friend or comrade that he's worked alongside for decades.
Yes, but that is in the anime. So are European ghost pirates. And in the anime, MS Obito can fly.
Without Danzo's intervention in the Uchiha clan, y'know... plucking out Shisui's eyeball before even giving him the opportunity to at least try and use Kotoamatsukami on the leaders of the Uchiha clan, perhaps there could've been peace between the clan and the rest of the Leaf village... and wasn't Itachi operating under Danzo's authority when he was enlisted to massacre his own clan? He took advantage of Itachi, Kabuto, Yamato, Kakashi, Hanzo, Shisui, etc... most of which were children at the time and more than half of those names are Leaf shinobi.
And if the Uchiha caught Shisui? They would've been on to Konoha and would have attacked sooner. Also, just because Fugaku says so, would that completely quell the Uchiha's dissension? What if others rose up and went on without Fugaku? Then Konoha would be totally off guard.
And yes, Itachi was under Danzo's orders because he knew the harsh truth of what had to be done.
Yes they were children. The whole world is also totally fine with children volunteering to kill each other in order to become better Ninjas, and Konoha is the only village to be shown using child soldiers. It's wrong what happens to children, yeah, but Danzo is definitely not the only person who does this.
While Danzo had the Leaf's best interests in mind he would just as quickly take full advantage of the shinobi of the village he was sworn to preserve and protect... I think generally he's very self-righteous and insensitive to his subordinates. The Leaf's extremist... willing to do anything to fulfill his mission and disregard the wise counsel of his peers while doing it.
Maybe he did take advantage of people. Maybe he did shrug off the counsels of his peers. But it was for the world, and he did do it for Konoha. That is the point of this thread.
If anything Danzo is more selfish,Madara atleast wanted to give people a world without suffering and even admonished Naruto for trying to ruin everyone's happiness.Danzo on the other hand only cared for his agenda and not anyone who was hurt or killed because of it.
1. That was filler
2. To destroy an organization which would become a major threat to the leaf.
3. If Danzo didn't do what he did, Konoha would have been engulfed in civil war. So that's a good thing
4. ...that was Orochimaru
5. Pretty sure that was filler
6. Do you honestly think Danzo or anyone in Root could have done a thing to Pain?
Danzo didn't go far enough. He should have cut out the Uchiha men's eyes, tongue and arms. But before that kill the children in front of the parents and kill the wives in front of the men. Then send the Uchiha men out into the world to be hunted down by ANBU for fun. That is what the filthy Uchiha blood line deserves

Remaining in contact with a known traitor and slipping him Anbu files as well. Some of you post such piles of bull shit for this guy that it's not even funny. Killing ninjas from other villages without any random incursions, and then the whole Uchiha massacre to score himself some eyes? How can anyone in their right minds call this guy admirable? It's almost disgusting.
i have to agree. but he dodn't sacrificed himself he was dying anyways. also, he is a warmonger who just excuses himself with his thoughts of peace and justice. i mean even hitler thought he was just and right.
