I did not think they were that annoying (ok maybe Kagami is sometimes annoying) but maybe manga feels different. I do not watch anime because characters' voice actors feel sooo old for adolescent males.
Is Black Butler any good? I saw some bad reviews about it.
I like many characters, atleast compared to most aspects of manga like its action. Or rather i do not dislike most of them.
Well, voices can only carry a character so far. I have not found much different between the characters of Sasuke in manga or anime - canon one.
Well, in my opinion, characterization matters a lot to me. For example, other than Solf J Kimblee I dislike most characters in FMA.
If you want to read BB, then read it for Sebastian. His character is quite complex. The manga has good humour and really bad humour at times. So that department, it's a mixed bag. The Ripper and Circus arcs were brilliant. The curry arc in between was a complete joke.
I suggest seeing the canon anime, as Daisuke Ono has done a fantastic job with Sebastian's voice. It really breathes life into the character. I have only just completed the Circus arc, so, I'll give it a 7 / 10. Here is a post I made in another thread about it:
Ciel is such a poor character. Sebastian on the other hand - one of the best I have come across. This series shouldn't have been added under the comedy genre. Sebastian is such a complex character. It's a shame that the author chose this route. I remember the non-canon episodes I saw only a day ago and the last and second last episode of the angel arc took my breath away. The seduction of the angel and the sexual and spiritual metaphors of the male angel becoming one with Sebastian ... I don't think I have ever come across such a delicate form of sexuality and seduction in any anime, ever!
It's scary how it actually is on par with Maria's seduction of James in Silent Hill II. It was THAT brilliant. The intermingling voices and the angel reassuring Sebastian that he would take on the form of a woman to achieve sexual and spiritual union brought back the whole dialogue when he was in the form of a woman and told him that how 'beautiful' Sebastian was and the 'pain in which he was in was exquisite'. Sadistic and downright carnal, without being vulgar and cheap.
Damn damn damn ... this should never have been under comedy, as when Sebastian seduced Beast, it had the same undertones. What a stupid author, honestly. A mature and non-shounen and comedy setting would have let the author bring out the hidden potential in Sebastian. A lot opportunity, really. Still, not a bad manga venture. I am just reading it for Sebastian.
