There was the hint of Kakashi was going to have power up, from previous chapters.
Naruto was using Hagomoro chakra to create Kakashi eyes, so some of Hagomoro chakra was still inside Kakashi.
Then Obito chakra went inside Kakashi body. Sakura did not see Obito, but she was shock to see Obito eyes on Kakashi.
Obito still had some chakra from being a Juubi. Some theory when Naruto gave Kurama chakra to everybody.
Obito chakra is still inside Kakashi, because Obito told Rin to wait.
With Hagoromo chakra and Obito chakra & eyes, in this way, Kakashi was given this power up.

He's been a popular character all along, lost his sharingan, and was forced to face the fact that he couldn't contribute much to Kaguya's defeat.

He's always been portrayed as a rather humble ninja (similar to Itachi in that respect), who was talented without being arrogant.

Kakashi fans have to be excited now. Don't begrudge them their moment.
