Critical Review:
When the anime of Fall 2013 came out, I was really hesitant to start anything. When I checked the charts, nothing interested me, But then I looked at the list and saw something called "Kill la Kill". At first, I was really hesitant about this anime and thought it was going to be utter crap. I was wrong. Kill la Kill is a rare breed of anime, after giving a try to 7-8 episodes, I was hooked. The story, the characters, the soundtrack and everything else about it were all very pleasing to my eye. One thing I would like to point out is the art style, It looked really cartoon-ish; I didn't really like it at first, but as I kept watching, I eventually got used to it. Some people may think that it just looks overall childish, but it really goes well with the way the action in this series works. Another good thing to point out about this series is the story and the characters, We normally never get a female main character in an action anime, so this is a nice breather from those. One thing I should recommend you never do is too take this series seriously. It has ton of humor that really mix with the art style, but the action never gets in the way of it. Now that we have spread out some of the main concepts, I'm going to go a little in-depth on them.
The characters in Kill la Kill are fun and well developed, and really well seasoned overall, One thing I said above is too never take them seriously. The main concept of this series is "clothing" and you can pretty much make any humorous concept from that. But when it really comes push to shove, this series executes the action and plot perfectly. Getting back on the top of characters, one character I would like to give a special mention too is Ryuko Matoi. Ryuko isn't your average girl/tomboy. She is strong-willed, stays firm on what she's fighting for and will do anything for it too happen, and when she ever goes through a phase where her resolve shows too much, her best friend, Mako Manshankoku will be there to set her at ease. I personally like Mako due to her being a huge tension breaker in the series, when things get really tough between Ryuko and another character, she'll be there to cheer up Ryuko and stop her from doing any harm to herself or others, serious props to the creators for making a character like that. Another huge pointer in this series is the action, as I've said before, the series takes light humor breaks in between the action and tension that the plot starts to build. I personally don't mind it since it's not done excessively. But like I said, the action is done quite nicely and I really enjoy it for what it is.
Also, the soundtrack is another thing to look out for, it was greatly composed by some great musicians. Especially the openings and endings, I really enjoy them since they give a good high and low vibe depending on the situation, well put and placed for me and one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.
You may or may not enjoy this anime, but I would definitely give it a chance. It was definitely a fun ride for me and please don't just judge it around 2-3 episodes, give it around 7-8 and I guarantee you will most likely enjoy it. If you're an action-freak or just really like cute characters and a nice breather from the usual-type anime you see, I highly recommend you check this out.
