So... What did Madara do all this time?

There was always something I was wondering.
Madara fought Hashirama when he was probably in his 20's. After he survived the battle through izanagi, he injected Hashirama's DNA and went to live somewhere in the caves or underground.

What did he do all this time from his 20's to when he was old and activated the rinnegan? (before he even met Obito)
Was he even planning on awakening the rinnegan, or did it come as a surprise?

What do you guys think?

Why was he immobile? I mean a good portion of time he was young enough to move. He was only immobile once he was so old that he needed the statue to give him life force just to live.

It's really hard to tell how old Madara is anyway. He has no facial hair what so ever.
I mean to me he looked younger than fugaku. But who knows...

Which is why part 3 going to be interesting. Madara and Hashirama wasn't the only top ninjas back in the days. Other shit was going on. especially the uzumaki clan!

he wasn't doing anything he was literally sitting in the cave crying. he didn't even know he could get the rinnegan and didn't get it until he was old as hell. not only that it was already confirmed black zetsu already made the plan and it was on the stone tablet. its just that madara is so dumb it took him his whole life to figure it out.

The first hokage die shortly after the fight with Madara and after gathering all the tails beasts to trade to other nations. His granddaughter was alive too so meaning Madara and Hashirama had to be in the 40s when you think about it.

For some reason I always imagined that when Madara came back to fight Hashirama it was shortly after he left. They seemed fairly young when Madara left the village.
So did it take him over a decade until he came back to attack the hidden leaf?
