Rinnegan is an upgraded Sharigan. According to Itachi & BZ genjutsu doesn't work on
someone with the same eyes and Rinnegan is past that , so you can't use genjutsu on a Rinnegan wielder.

sharingan and rinnegan are not the same eye if not bz wouldnt have said sasuke's rinnegan if it could have been his sharingan

Proof that it does ? Besides Sasuke's genjutsu is mediocre compared to Itachi.
Someone like Nagato who has excellent chakra control would break from it like Danzo.

It wasnt damaged, obito just said he couldnt use KA because he used it already, danzo hasnt shown too much feats that he is good with chakra control

Sharingan can see pass solid objects unlike the rinnegan so he could have still been able to see even with the bandage on, sasuke used susanoo and enton with a bandage on and knew were zetsu was

Otherwise he wouldn't remove the strap in the end when Hashirama DNA regenerated it and say :
" Now the real fight is going to begin " Kotoamatsukami can be used without direct contact.
No need to remove the bandages hence no sharingan involved.

This settles it. With Sharingan he could just see through it. Without it you have to be aware you are being affected and use chakra control.
It was explained some time ago when Naruto&Kakashi fought Itachi.
