because ochimaru used edo tensi to rez them to attack the hidden leaf village... and the 3rd hokage sealed the edos souls in the reaper along with ochimarus arms

He died in the second world shinobi war dude, he probably knew he would as well because he appointed Tobirama Hokage before going into battle.

Of course he was old! He was alive decades before the founding of Konoha and lived through 2wars after, he might not look it but believe me he was old.

It's not possible for Hashirama to have died during the Second Ninja World War, from the simple fact that his brother, Tobirama, died during the First Ninja World War.

The only way that could have happened was if Hashirama stepped down from the position of Hokage, and Tobirama became the new one. But that's also not possible, from the somewhat "known" fact that Tobirama became a Hokage after his brother's death. (First Databook, page 116)

i think hashirama died while protecting the konoha same thing happen with the other kages like tobirama, sarutobi and minato they all died protecting the konoha. You can also consider danzo and jiraiya as hokage because they were both appointed by the council and they also died for the people of konoha.

Konaha previous hokages died while protecting their village... i think it is the same thing happen to hashirama.

Tobirama died during a mission, somewhere away from the village.

Maybe he sacrificed himself.. Who knows!

OP There has to be some major reason for his death. I mean, this is a guy who hunted tailed beasts like they were dogs so he could sell them to the other nations. If you want to tell me that Fodder #14678681 hit him with a kunai, then you don't know shōnen.
