Luffy doesn't have a bad bone? Luffy isn't a saint either you know, he regularly destroys property, he regularly undergoes dangerous missions that put his crew in life-threatening danger, he's glutton, he's dangerously stupid.
He doesn't have depth to him to make him feel anymore than fictional character. Not much to relate with him by except his deterministic aspiration to become pk. And yet that seems fictional because right off the bat he's determined and he doesn't waiver much. Not human trait of a human character. Just a story with a lessom

How the hell can you tell me why I like One Piece? There are people who love One Piece because of the plot, because of the humor, because of the character development, because of the action, because of the freedom, and there's people, such as myself, who loves it because of each. YOU are the one who thinks One Piece is just a "coolness coolness" manga, and that's the trait YOU love, but don't try to lump the rest of us in with it just to make yourself feel better about it.

Except I'm not a fan. I made this clear, you are becoming too defensive to a claim. Is the discussion over? You don't seem to understand how to continue one objectively. I wrote coolness coolness because my phone glitched. Now if you want, you can tell me how one piece is more than a cool story with lessons, otherwise I stand correct in what I stated. How is it different than any other manga with topics like that? Are you telling me ODA is the first to ever Dogg so deep into his characters?

Uhm what? There are tons of humans who didn't give up what they wanted. Luffy has waivered befored, but he doesn't do it much because he's simpleminded.

No I'm not. But if your logic is that One Piece isn't as good as people think because it doesn't have shit no one else has ever done, then nothing is good.

No i'm saying it's simple. I said this in my premise which you are ignoring intentionally. You just can't explain what makes it such a better story than any other, while it looks like you concede that it is more entertaining (characters, setting, clear lessons, coolness) the story is not deep; it is easy to comprehend and has the lessons made easy to note. Everything is clear to the reader. Like i said causation/analogous versus ambiguity. One piece is a story written well with some lessons. It's like any story before it yet people say it is better than is processors. Why? Is it because of the art? What makes it better? The setting and characters are only good tools because there is art with it. Without it
, would the story still be lauded or... see what I'm saying when I say the word "cool". The aspect is facilitating greatly

And expression is key in debating. You aren't persuasive

Uhm what? There are tons of humans who didn't give up what they wanted. Luffy has waivered befored, but he doesn't do it much because he's simpleminded.

It is easy to write a simple minded character. It is even easier to make the main character simple.

The only copy and paste in One Piece as far as I'm concerned is Dressrosa pretty much being a revision of Alabasta.

First, the rubber power is not original as it is taken from Mr. Fantastic. Rest of the implementations do seem original.

Second, his story reeks of inspiration from the western folk tales or fairy tales I grew up watching. Though he twisted it with some creativity.

Third, the reason it's so popular in Japan is because of it's Pirate theme, a totally new concept for them, as is proven by the sales where out of 345 million copies, it sold 300 inside Japan only and rest 45 outside in 17 years.

Fourth, it's like darksiders 2, where the main plot progression and goal is being hindered again and again by useless side missions. But then it's just my opinion.

Fifth, I like how he picks up some great social issues like slavery, oppression, etc. but at the same time don't like how he only touch the surface of those problems instead of giving solutions to them, not to mention how he shows mostly old age problems that has already been removed from the society and thus don't have to struggle from his own mind to find their solutions as they were already been answered in history.

Sixth, I don't like how he is now using Nami, Robin and other females, for fan-service. In the past, he used them for it as well but it was a little less, but now it's all over the place.

Seventh, really little to no character development according to my definition of character development. None of them mature or changed at all. They are still the same old idiots who we have at first glance. Maybe I am not seeing it in full picture so I want someone to show me that picture, I would be thankful.

Eighth, clearly little to no life lessons at all that can fit into our real world, unlike Naruto. It doesn't teach us anything that may be useful to us in real life. It's simply entertainment with no lessons. It's also unrealistic as well.

These and maybe some more are my problems. So I think it's a little over-rated as most of it's fanatics have to say, " Stick with it, it gets better". True, it does get better during Alabasta [ for me it did ] and all but it's not all that great as it's fanatics make it out to be.

Every now and again the naruto fans on this forum simply need to have a go at One Piece :) people om the internet seem to not be able to shut up about the stuff they dislike ( that's why every song has 30% of comments just bit???ng about it, the ratio of satisfied to dissatisfied on the web is pathetic)

Why make a thread about something you dislike? Just to annoy ppl? I dislike Bleach and for that reason you never see me in Bleach threads or the Bleach section

I don't give a fk if ppl dislike something I like, what I have a problem with is that they just can't shut up about it

Judging from his thread, he is just stating his opinions. Just because you don't express your opinion on something you didn't like in a series you are reading, doesn't mean others shouldn't do it as well.

And you do give a fk because you commented, because it's not that you have a problem with people not shutting up about it, but because you don't want to listen to the defects of the thing you dearly like. You can't take criticism against your favourite things, that's the truth.

noone likes to hear haters take a swing at what they like, isn't that so Obito fanboy? that's no secret and it goes for everyone not just me, so I have no idea why you felt the need to explain the obvious to me. On the other hand criticism from fans is good but only when they are actual fans who don't only contribute when there is a bash thread (in case of OP, you), I made threads in the past about what I dislike about OP and what I think are it's faults and I was pretty vocal about how stupid the tournament fodder blocks chapters were

but some people feel the need to complain constantly and waste their time on something they don't even like, or even worse, hate on something because they are afraid that that one thing might just be better than what they like (or other ppl think it's better), which is also a reason why people sometimes have a hard time with new things. I never go into the Naruto section to create threads about how bad Obito or Kaguya are and never go into the Bleach section to express my thought on it because it would both waste my time and aggravate the fans, but the hoi polloi of hatedom would rather waste their time because they (sadly) have nothing better to do

anyway that's it for me on this thread, enjoy your day

Seriously why do you read OP?? You dont make general comments in this section only negative. If there is a thread saying something negative about OP you will be there. Are you so insecure that you constantly feel the need to talk negatively about the series to make you feel better because so many people think its better than Naruto? Your some sad little guy who comes in this section just to bash the series. I dont like Fairy Tail do you see me in that section?? Please do yourself a favour drop OP you dont like it and just watching something to find faults in it which I suspect you have been doing since the beginning is just sad.

One piece fans should stop judging Naruto then because it is dividing the forum. I had an opinion. The ones who bash Naruto and say the same frivolous crap aren't be candid with their own manga. I only took the initiative to give my opinion because you don't see much criticism for one piece. Naruto fans and One piece are one in the same. That's why Naruto fans aren't loyalist

This thread was posted in the g3neral discussion and moved into the one piece semi-forum. Your chief point is negated I asked for any one's opinion, don't act like a child because his isn't a supporting one

Am I talking to you? Vasu is a well know person in this forum who just constantly makes negative points about OP. He doesnt make general comments and is miraculously always here when someone has something negative to say otherwise I dont see him ever posting. That my friend is a hater who just reads a series to bash it. I take your opinion in to account because this is the first time I have seen you post about OP and you may be a genuine fan who reads the series for fun and finds flaws in it. Vasu isnt like that.

Anyway on to your post. Yeah your right OP is mainly based on having fun. It is meant to be an adventure story. The SH arent doing any kind of philosophical or deep kind of BS nor do they actually give a crap about any of that excluding possibly Robin. They just find themselves in those situations. However, there are many serious issues that are popping up and is is clear that these will be more important later in the story. There is at least 8 years left in the story. It is obvious that things will become more serious when Luffy meets dragon and all the void century stuff.

Ok, I'll check it out but I'm not calling it a bad manga. Just it has an overrated plot. Luffy just trying to become pirate king and traveling to places helping people. Dbz save the world and collecting dragon balls. The story never seem to ever change except for when Ace died and his death was a plot device in a way. I enjoy One piece for what I think it is. I just don't see why people say it has the best story of all time.

DBZ talks about issues too. One piece might draw emotion which makes it more than an one dimensional manga but DBZ does too and people like to call its story abysmal.

DBZ; pride, bereavement, envy, love, slavery (buu saga), adversary, death, maturity, choosing a normal life over fighting, betrayal, oneness (fusion and harnessing emotion) and volition. By everyone's viewpoint DBZ must be a deep story for it had a lot of traits which made it not one dimensional, yet people call it simple.

The difference here is the depth of the worlds.

Look at DBZ and think how much the Earth as a planet has a direct effect on the Z Warriors. Other than a place to fight on and maybe some civilians to kill to hype a bad guy....the world of DBZ holds little content.

Comparatively, Oda has structured a rather interesting and involved planet. The Ocean actually serves to create conflict and adversity just through travel. More so, the islands and governments on them (both individually and on a global scale), constantly have development and revelation. For instance, during the Romance Dawn Arc, or the Arlong Arc, we see corrupt Marine forces. At the same time, we see people like Garp and Momonga who do what they can to help the innocent. We even get people like Kizaru and Smoker who almost do their own thing in their own style.

But on top of just characters, we see the government itself has depth. We have the local rulers (Wapol), we have the Gorosei, and then World Nobles. We get to see the good and bad thst exists everywhere with One Piece. There's no single "good guy." Comparatively, e Z warriors are your run of the mill heroes who are just. The closest they get to not being so is Vegeta, but even he ultimately acts as a hero just with a pinch of Anti-Hero.

L0l don't mind this double and triple posting guy. Everybody who read more than 100 chapters of One Piece knows that the plot is the thickest of any manga ever.

It's for a reason why it has the oldest audience reading it, it handles mature themes and has been doing it for many years. Sales shatter any competition, so there is no contest.

And to Vasu, stop drinking from the Ganges, it's causing brain damage. I do think it's an impressive skill where you manage to show up in every thread that is trying to take a piss out of One Piece. You're like a pig who is able to sniff out truffles, only you do it with threads.

Topic starter came here to 'discuss' and repeats he doesn't want to bash. Yet he keeps making these underwater stabs and doesn't respond to people with an actual good post or ignore their point completely. He is like a music box who played the same tune for two pages now.

He only 'skimmed' the story yet he believes he can discuss it with people who have been reading it for years. And as ironic as it gets, you're the one who is claiming it is simple.

Come back when you've finished it and try saying again how simple it is.

Just stop responding to the guy, not worth the time and obvious troll. He keeps hammering on the fact that he wants to discuss, but he is just looking for a way to bash in every post. How the hell do you discuss something when you've skimmed 17 years of manga content.

I think bro u shld go read the story then try and bash on it coz yes Luffy is simple(but not so, I mean do u even know what he views being PK as, its not Crown for Pirates so u know) but not the story. Also being mature doesnt mean being a different person heck I still watch Anime(cartoons to everyone else in my vicinity) but I have my dreams and hopes for my future that Im working at so while to them other pple cartoons r childish, Im not so uhm just coz Imature doesnt mean now I have to stop liking stuff i liked as a kid and like what is the generall preferance flr everyone else so Luffy can kid around with Ussop, make a mess at dinner but the WG still vies him as threat and when the time comes he throws away all childish antics as Ileave my pc and go to work and school everyday.

I wrote this in another thread and wanted some discussion elicited from it.

Re: One piece
It has an alluring plot at first glance, and rubber power is original, but it fails to remain intricate in plot and is just really good character development with awesome levity sometimes. It has an extremely overrated story but people love the manga for its fun entertainment. Its fan base is the worst and coincide with Naruto's. Reason why naruto fans aren't loyal.

What is your opinion on this? No meanys no allowed.

Note I am an one piece reader but I'm not a fanatic. I try to remain unbias but I do not like certain aspects Oda has made in the story. Please try to remain amicable

I gotta disagree with most of what you said.

1. Rubber power isn't original unless you only count mangas, Reed Richards was stretching over *****es since the 60's.
2. Naruto fans in general are worse, at least here, about accepting others opinions.
3. How exactly is the plot not intricate? Things from the first 100 chapters still come into play later in the series, that is a very thought out plot if you ask me. It's plot is just as good as any of the other high selling manga.

its not overrated. It is fairly rated and mostly underrated by other fans. But this is the best plot and story i have ever read/watch.i watched over 100 anime/cartoon most of them are very long that includes dbz,Naruto, one piece, bleach, fairy tail etc.But i love one piece for its story and character development through time and hardships.

One Piece and Naruto fans are opposites.

Naruto is a series that was good but has gone downhill like crazy. Naruto fans deny that and ignore its flaws. Most Naruto fans are delusional and loves to troll and bash for no reason.

One piece is a series that has an incredible, unpredicatble and complex story that seems very simple, striaght-foward and childish to newcomers and people not invested in the story. It gets alot of bashing from Naruto, Fairy Tail, and HunterxHunter fans who don't read One Piece prompting OP fans to defend the series on that aspect. Most Op fans are aware of One Piece's flaws(c'mon Op fans. The beginning of OP was slow, childish, silly and cartoony. I dropped OP twice because of it back in the day.)

Btw, I disagree.

Suggest you calm down sir. Learn what persuasion is then I'll stop ignoring you, otherwise you sound arrogant.

And thank you to the rest who commented. Wanted to see how One piece fans would react honestly. I don't hate one piece, I like Naruto more but I believe camaraderie is an important trait and I don't always see etiquette from One piece fans. They normally don't respect naruto like the guy I'm quoting. I'm sorry if I made it seem I was bashing One piece. I was being candid and really just wanted to glean the responses I would get.

Don't really see bashing from Naruto fans that often. Vasu's comment was well organized and should be accepted as opinion. Not only that but he actually put substance and emphasized on its strengths and weaknesses. To be blunt, I've only seen one piece fans be overtly defensive from normal and petty criticism. The fan base needs ameliorating and enhancing because from I can tell they are just as bad (perhaps a smidge better) than naruto fans. Naruto fans aren't loyal. Go to any naruto bash thread, and see how many people defend it. Rolling, hixa, vasu, ezkichia, me, kurama,ct9, and couple others are the only ones who actually attempt to wane the hate a little with our dissents. No one has respect for what we enjoy reading yet one piece fans have respect and still black out to any claim sullying their beloved manga. Just saying I don't see Naruto's quality any worst since I became a reader. In my eyes, I like it more and feel immersed into the Naruto manga. I made this thread to see how you fans would react to something trivial but critical nonetheless and I'm a bit disappointed. Not that you don't care but as a casual reader of manga and bibliophile in real life, I was turned off a bit
