Guys. Bad news here. I am not sure if many people, if any, have heard about this yet. But I live in Toledo Ohio. Right now things are getting pretty bad. 24 hours ago, the water department declared that all of the water in Toledo and our surrounding areas is contaminated with toxins. It happened pretty much over night.

At least that's what it seems like. You can read the story on 13 Abc news. A harmful algae bloom has happened in lake Erie. This could spread farther. They are still testing and have no clear idea on what is going to happen and when/if they can fix the problem. We are not allowed to drink the water, our brush our teeth. Some chance showering. Some come out of the shower fine. And others are in the emergency room with blisters and rashes. Ingesting the water will give liver problems, and nausea along with a whole plethora of other disturbing symptoms.

The news online makes it seem not so bad.. but I live here in Toledo. This is a calm before a storm. People in this city have a lot of passion when it comes to protecting their families. But stores are trying to restock all over. But bottled water is being bought up every where. There was a point during the day when every where from Bowling Green OH to Dundee MI was out of bottled water. That also included toledo to the Indiana state line. They have started to pull produce from the shelves at stores because it's been sprayed with the water.

All restaurants closed today. All governmental official buildings closed today. The zoo where my wife works closed today. Everywhere is shutting down, and people are either staying inside to horde their water, or migrating elsewhere with empty containers to fill up at fresh water wells, and places with different sources of water. A lot of people are being hospitalized. Tons of pets are dying. And what is worse is you CANNOT boil the water to clean it. This actually increases the amount of toxins in the water! :(

They aren't sure how to fix it. People will be stuck here with no water, food, or jobs to go to. There was already one riot and three large fights. Not too mention people in Detroit who have been without water for about three weeks are now getting the idea from us Toledoans and traveling to other places like Ypsilanti MI to get water too. This is a serious humanitarian crisis happening. The national guard is already involved. How long until martial law, and the UN come in to play? People are already going crazy and it's only been one day so far.

Been staying calm as best I can. I've been preparing to bug out for a while now just in case a zombie apocalypse or something of the like happens in this country.. so we are not doing to terribly on water. But still will need more in order to handle this for several days if it keeps up. I have a wife, a beautiful two year old daughter named Snow, and my trusted canine comrade Emiko. ( she's a dingo ) They all mean the world to me. So I will do everything I can in my power to keep them safe. But, I just felt like reporting this on the base. You guys are one of my favorite hobbies, and my life is changing at a drastic pace. If I can't post much in the next few weeks I apologize. But I will find my way back.. We Inuzuka have fairly good noses you know...

Keep me updated if you hear anything new.

I will have you and your family in my thoughts. I haven't heard anything of this situation until now... Definitely reminds people of how we shouldn't take water for granted.

You still have to buy bottled water? When there's a water ban in our area, the city places pallets of bottled water on neighborhood corners. Maybe its' a budget thing, but if it's an Emergency, that would free up money set aside for such a thing right?
There are some fire stations giving out free water in areas that are safe. And the national guard is bringing us water. But they have limited the amount. Of water everyone is allowed to get for some reason. And we live in a humid swamp where becoming dehydrated is a real threat to us without water. A lot of people have infants here in Toledo.

I wish i had money so i could send you 100 24 count water bottle packs. >.>

With water, everything else is easier.
Lol thanks. I can dig it. But I'm sure I will be alright.. My dog has been freaking out for a week. I knew somethin was gonna happen. So I started storing up on water and canned goods early without really knowing it was gonna happen. I don't know, I just trust my dogs instincts. They're way more perceptive than us.

I heard about this.

Do you happen to know if osmosis filteration systems would work on the toxin? From my understanding it should, unless the toxin is completely disolved in water.

From what I had heard, is that the water is still safe to bathe in, just not safe to be ingested, or to get into blood stream.

Either way I will pray that you and your loved ones make it through this safely. I hope things improve for you.

Reverse osmosis systems do not work as of the update tonight that happened around 740ish. :/

I agree. At least you came well prepared for this incident. XD

Who knows how long this epidemic will last.

Hey I just realized something I think may work for getting all the water you need.

I read a news article about this, and it mentioned that boiling water only increases the concetration. Then I got to thinking why that is. The conclusion I made is that the toxin remains behind while h2o evaporates.

So then that got me thinking that you should be able to distill water to safely drink.

And if this theory is correct, you could also sell that distilled water to make a little bit of profit and help others.

I think this is something you should definately look into, and figure out if it works. Because if it does then you should not have any worries about this.

Even if distilling carries a little bit of toxin in it, you should be able to distill it enough times until the toxin is harmless.

(distilling is simply boiling water and collecting the condensation into water. Water distilled leaves behind its impurities. Essentially rain water is distilled water)
