Kuroko no Basuke and Fullmetal Alchemist have good characterizations for their MC and they have shounen status. I do not even read many manga but i can still give examples, Naruto manga itself has some decent or well written characters; excuses for Naruto's character such as 'Naruto is a shounen hero' does not validate how far things have fallen as being badly written is not an obligation for shounen.

At no point in time did I ever mention Naruto or the flow of the plot as a whole; leave your conjecture out of this. The ONLY characters that can even be remotely considered "well done" by literary standards are Kakashi and Itachi. Naruto is a typical shounen hero with certain oddities and quirks mixed in, whether or not you like that is subjective to your own taste. The rest are generally cliched as well, just half-assed ones like Killer Bee or butchered ones like Sasuke.

But this work, as commonplace in this genre (FMA is an exception, not the rule) is not centralized on characterization and thereby will not reflect it. To look for it is asinine and puerile.
