Naruto never knew what Obito went trough, but Obito later showed Naruto that he had found a new thing to believe in. Therefore he choose to die for it, that's one of the reason why Naruto praises Obito.

Obito is basically what Naruto could've been, I guess that's why he felt that way about him. Not to mention Obito saved Naruto a few times, while he shared his dream.

It's called having a kind heart. Naruto could see how much Obito has suffered, all of his actions where through heartbreak and being manipulated. He understood him, could have been him. like how he understood Nagato, Naruto is unusually kind hearted. In the end, he found forgiveness for him.

And also, Naruto is simply a forgiving guy, always has been. Even back when Haku 'killed'' Sasuke. I don't read a lot of manga outside of Naruto, but when I think back to dbz, Goku also befriended Vegeta who tried to kill him once.
