I don't think he is a bad character, its still the same old Naruto even if he is really strong now. He does out shine other characters a little much, so yeah, I can see why people don't like him now. You should of seen the 4th hokage son thing coming, though.
A little while ago I actually watched a few videos on YouTube from the King of Lightning and I actually agree that I belive that Naruto is a good character but he is constantly bashing on him but at the same he made some interesting points about his character and why he doesn't like him anymore.
Here are links to the videos (one of the videos did get me angry at him though)
The total Naruto series is now all about Naruto and Sasuke. No one is relevant anymore now. These two are overpowered. If you look to OP manga, Zoro and many others having their character improvement over time with Luffy. They work hard. In here, Naruto got Kurama from his first day, now got all power from sage. Only part when he and Sasuke really worked hard is with shenin. Unfortunately they don't use those power anymore, they dont even use any ninja style fighting. Its kind of who ever is strong is gonna win. No need to use any technique or strategy or brain. In term of theme, now it's like regular action manga. They need to fight for to save the world, not anymore for friends only.
He wasn't an outstanding character to begin with, but he isn't bad.
I just think hope, never giving up, chasing your dream is a repetitive theme for a series. Seen it too many times it gets boring,

Kakashi? Sakura? Obito? Madara? and other characters that got a lot of focus and development?
The story has always been at two parts ever since the timeskip. The Naruto side, and Sasuke's, with them developing or go through similar events at the same time (i.e Personal loss. Naruto with Jiraiya, Sasuke with Itachi), even down to the powerups were at the same time, it's all linked tightly to the theme of yin and yang in the series. Naruto is the protagonist and the titular character and Sasuke is the deturagonist, while in one piece, there is a whole crew, and more than 4 main characters, Luffy is the protagonist, the rest are almost as equally important. It's just a different style of story telling really.
You are also conveniently forgetting, how Obito and Sakura who can't compare in terms of powers to them, are being a key part in the fight. And Lol, really? you are conveniently forgetting all the hard work Naruto did, to become a competent ninja in part 1, and some arcs in part 2? Sasuke was never meant to be a hard worker, he is a natural talent.
Following your logic, then Naruto and Sasuke will never win against Kagyua, seeing as she is a goddess and is stronger than them, you just made a contradiction.
Their friends are not part of the world? this is what Naruto said when he got his power, and was asked by the six sage of path:-

And despite what some people think, the strategy element in the fight is still there, people just don't remember or pay attention to it, because the power scale got higher and more grand.

The main ideal of Naruto and theme of the series ever since the pain arc was stopping the cycle of hatred. Naruto's character was really impacted with Pain's philosophy, and was implemented into Naruto's mental growth and understanding of the world.
And besides changing Naruto's ideals without a good reason is pretty stupid and unnecessary. It's because of what Naruto faced through his life, and the hardships, that those seemingly generic and cliche words, actually mean something.
