I don't think he was scared either, at least not to the degree many try to imply; but i think he 'ran away' from Jiraiya at that time, because fighting him wouldn't have been a good idea when Itachi was tired and needed to go somewhere to rest his body:Yes, its very possible that Itachi ran away because he was a good guy. I dont think Itachi was "scared" of him, but it was more like he respected Jiraiya. Anyone saying he was scared doesn't have manga proof to back it up. As has already been mentioned, the only thing we've got is Itachi telling Kisame that they were no match for him, using Amaterasu to escape the toads stomach, and running away. Everything else is just speculation. I think he liked Jiraiya since he was at least trying to hook him up with some pretty girls![]()

It was stated by someone that had absolutely no desire to fight Konoha... Wouldn't be the first time someone said something blatantly false in the manga and fans/haters took it as a manga fact. I'm just saying I doubt Itachi was afraid and Itachi haters really need to start to use their brains. same goes for the Itachi 'fappers' that fail to use logic.
No the assertion that Itachi was somehow restraining himself so as not to damage Konoha is blatantly false. In the exact same arc Itachi attacked 4 of the leafs top jounin and would have killed Kakashi had might guy not intervened. He had absolutely no quarrels with mentally destroying kakashi and then ordering Kisame to finish him off. Also without Jiriaya's intervention they would have taken naruto, which would damage the power of the leaf village immensely.
People act like Itachi was so saintly and try to justify his actions as such. But when you look at them objectively he didn't have konoha's interests at heart in that arc at all. But then again anyone that actually looks at Itachi objectively is instantly branded a hater....
He mentally destroyed him and didnt kill him. There might be some minor plot holes that kishi left but from what we know now we have to think that itachi wanted to protect the leaf. He did not want to kill jiraiya or any leaf shinobi. If he truly wanted to kill them he would've, he had to make kisame and the leaf shinobi believe he was merciless and a psychopath. No the assertion that Itachi was somehow restraining himself so as not to damage Konoha is blatantly false. But thats the thing he did want to. He tried to kill Kakashi, but Kakashi resisted Tsukiyomi on some level. Being weakened after using it Itachi then ordered Kisame to finish of Kakashi. Kisame has no restraint here or any 'allegiances' to uphold. Kisame would have killed Kakashi, Asuma and Kurenai had Might Guy not arrived.

It was in no way Itachi's restraint that stopped them from getting killed it was Guy's intervention.

Itachi was no match for Jiraiya even if he had Kisame with him. No matter how hard an Itachi Fapper tries to change it, it was stated ik the manga Itachi said he and kisame were no match for one of the legendary sannin
