''Black Pete'' Racism or not ?

So I found this on the internet.. about black men working for a white man.

People use paint to be black and play a story about a white man on a horse and black men working for them and going through houses and giving presents.


What do you guys actually think of this ?​

Nobody would have had a problem with this if it were white men working for him.

I actaully don't care.
Its a Holliday, Called "Sinterklaas"
The reason that The Pieten are Black, Not as a Race,But Black because they have Been going trough Pipes and Such.
In any way, For many Dutch people, Sinterklaas is like the Second Christmas.
We Get and Give presents.
Its awesome.
I don't know why people are making a big deal of it.
They could change names but, Its a Tradition,Like from Decades Ago.
Traditions shouldn't be Changed.

I don't consider it racist, it's pretty annoying nowdays that when u say that you're a proud black man, asian and all that, nobody cares but if you say that you're a proud qhite man, you get called racist.

Ahhh, that's a tough one. I guess I would have to know more about this before I could really understand how I feel about this. Can you sum up that article or is what you said already pretty much the summary? If so, I just think it's really odd for them to paint themselves black but maybe they didn't want to come off as racist by asking blacks to do work for them in this story so they took the liberty to do it themselves.

Sometimes people being polite can come off the wrong way and send out an opposite vibe. If that's not the case, then it's just racism.

It is a Great Place.
But
Just like alot of Places,The Netherlands Has a Bit of an Economy Problem.
Also, One guy that Partly Leads the netherlands(Barely) is racist...

Well it's basically a white man who comes from another country with his boat loaded with black man.. he enters the Netherlands, and let's the black people give the children presents and candy.. I searched around and alot of black people

Yeah that's what makes it strange, seems like an obvious reference to slavery to me too Lol. Well, I gotta stick with what I said before. Maybe they just didn't want to offend blacks by asking them to take part. And blacks and whites would have things pretty simple but people don't always think like that.

this , thats why they black because of the ashes ..they and drop presents for the children or atleast that's the explanation I always heard (which is pretty believable for young children )

Lot's of controversy about this topic last years btw, people calling it discrimination and racism , I even heard they want to turn him purple and give him hipper clothes and not those rags which people supposedly link to "poor black people"

yea well children don't care or will think of explanations like that²
I mean they even believe that santa or sinterklaas actually climbes thru it , so why would they not believe they have clothes who are ash proof or whatever lol

Why? Because of Blackface. Blackface was a stereotypical caricature of black people that was done in the 19th century and only ended after the Civil Rights Movement.

I live on an island that used to be a considered a part of The Netherlands.

We also celebrate this.
I do not find it racist at all.
Literally no one found this racist till last year some idiot decided to bring up the topic about it being racist while we've been having this holiday for decades.
