''Black Pete'' Racism or not ?

Okay so there's a major discussion going on in my country ( The Netherlands ) Wheter this would be labeled 'Racist' or not.

So the guys with the blackfaces are called the Black Pete's , they're like the so called 'companions' of the old white dude you can see above. It's a kids holiday, really similar to Christmas. In which kids get presents and stuff, but it's getting more and more heat the latest year due to well, 'black people' thinking it's racist.


What's your view on it , would you think it's racist ? It's a part of my country's culture and I'd be sad to see it go away just because of some people who couldn't accept our culture when they came here...

It's not racist because it isn't claiming one race superior or inferior. Change them to white people will complain, leave them black and people will still complain. But no it isn't racist.

No offense though, there was a comic here in sweden that had been going on for over 20 years, but now since many people from ither countries came in and saw that there was a black hot dog that was talking, they had to remove it since people thought it was offensive
