Excellent theory.

I think Kaguya is too new and has no linking to the plot to be a suitable main villain. The Sage being the final villain would be much more fitting and a definite improvement over the whole Tobi is Obito reveal.

It would be a plot twist that makes sense.

Also, the Sage has been connected to the plot for many years already, whereas Kaguya has only been introduced for a few months.

Let's also keep in mind that S06P became famous. His brother did not. It's totally possible that BZ was the failure brother here. It'd make the Sage look bad and make Madara look bad if BZ beats them both this easy. Agreed with OP that the base is giving BZ too much cred.

Well, of course it made Madara and Hagoromo look bad. That's expected when introducing a secret villain that rose to power behind the scenes.

Kaguya-hime fooled them all and orchestrated her grand return:nosebleed:

Why choose one son over the other and expect the shafted one to cooperate? and in jp culture it is the highest insult for the eldest son of a clan leader to be shafted for his younger sibling, no sane jp lord father would expect his eldest son to accept quietly such a decision.
