Sasuke vs Itachi was not a defeat, since Itachi planned it. Itachi is just the type of character that cannot lose to someone, he had to be freed from edo tensei, because the manga would end too fast if he were still there to beat madara
itachi feared obito and wasnt able to beat kabuto by himself as he was clearly being overpowered without sasukes aid.
if he was still there he would sit back and let everyone get massacred since thats what itachi always does.

The first two statements you mentioned hold no meaning to the thread. Itachi stated in the fight that he didn't care if he got hit or not due to being an Edo, he got hit while protecting Sasuke, and Kabuto was ended by Izanami. Obito was a pawn quite literally his entire life due to Madara. And he didn't want to hurt Jiraiya and attract more attention.

the hits on edo itachi were legitimate because even with immortality, kabuto had a way to negate that and turn itachi back into his slave. so every bit of damage itachi took counted against him and was damage he could not afford. thats why he thanked sasuke for saving his fukin ass.
he wasnt protecting sasuke because sasuke was never in any fukin danger.
kabuto admitted he would never hurt sasuke as he needed him alive.
obito wasnt a pawn. he was ready to betray madara and do his own thing which madara predicted and worked against
i dont care for his reasons for running from jiraiya. he did so. thats all that matters.

no it fukin didnt. the fight was a failure in terms of itachi achieving his overall goals.
for one, he lost because he stupidly said "im sorry" to sasuke which contradicts ten years of being "omg im so evil". he lost because sasuke didnt listen and was going to go after madara next meaning itachi intending to end the revenge with his death was not going to happen.
third, itachi intended to make sasuke some defender of konoha with a new power.
impossible because sasuke does not unlock mangekeyo without obitos story being told to him meaning we would be back to base sasuke but even weaker as itachi ripped CS out of him.
fourth, itachi intended to die at sasukes hand.
this did not happen. itachi was never mortally wounded by sasukes blows or attacks. he simply fell down dead because he ran out of time, like kimimaro. so the whole purpose of sasukes life up to that point was pointless and meaningless. and your a fool if sasuke wont eventually figure that out once he calms down and analyses his memories.
the only goal itachi succeeded in doing in that fight was getting rid of oro, which still ultimately did not work.
everything itachi wanted to do with the sasuke fight, he did not do. it was a loss on all fronts.
