You know, i've been thinking, if Pain attacked Jiraiya from the beggining with all 6 bodies he would have lost. Because if he caught all 6 bodies in that frog genjutsu, then they would be able to be revived.

thats true...but as we saw... Jiraiya was leaving Ame after killing the 3 paths, then asura attacked him...so even if Jiraiya defeated all 6 paths he wouldn't have thought about looking for the 7th(probably). he would have left, and nagato would have just got 6 more bodies...
That's assuming that Jiraiya would even be able to get into Hermit mode. Remember that only animal realm was attacking Jiraiya and his summon. We've seen how Deva Realm easily dealt with that summon and the others together would've been far worse for Jiraiya.

That's why Pain was only using 3 bodies at the beginning. He's smart, he knew JIraya was strong, and that he most probaly would have lost without keeping his secret. Because he knew Jiraya could have a badass jutsu

Too true main its like this, Jiraiya is well known for his versitilty in jutsu and even Pain was not sure of all his techniques except the fact that Jiraiya doesn't use genjutsu or so he thought. Pain coming out wit all six paths would of been disaterous either way you look at it Pain could go all out and put some gangsta justsu on Jiraiya reletively quick wit six different types of justu or attacks. Or Jiraiya could of placed a summoning barrier on them and sealed them in the frog and killed them. The fight would be terribly sick that way not that it wasn't but this would demonstrate the strength of bot culprates in gargantuant proportions.That's why Pain was only using 3 bodies at the beginning. Jiraiya has the advantage with exp. and with all six paths out Jiraiya would of figured out the secret and thus the 7th Pain or Nagato would be discovered. Jiraiya has the justu to defeat Pain and could honestly have smashed him with the two advantaged and his repetoire of justu alone not to mention his gangsta will or fire which is second to none except Naruto who he gave it to so yeah great point and good shitt on the thread I was starting to get bored with myself
Pain is badass and we could argue some real shitt on his behalf but look at sasori and chio the exp was the only factor so that is why I say J man even though Pain is my 2nd fav next to Naruto

Reviewing the fight even further, I've thought of REALLY obvious ways for Jiraiya to beat Pain.
-what if he didn't go into sage mode at the start. he would have PWND animal realm within seconds. then the other bodies wouldn't be summoned.
-then that spacetime/toad mouth trap he used on the dogs, why didn't he just use that when he got close to the bodies?
-if he knew he was gunna fight someone worthy of sage mode, why not summon gamaken ALONG WITH gamanbunta and gamahiro?
-also when he lured the 3 Pains in that hallway after jiraiya came up with the plan, why didn't he just use toad mouth trap on all 3 bodies, cause how would the fat guy absorb toad mouth trap?
-then when he said he had to leave his toad barrier to go back outside to confirm Pain's identity, why didn't he just send up a shadow clone?
I think the way Kishi wrote that fight was retarded. I think Jiraiya looked way stronger in the fight and from logic it seemed like he should've won. I think Jiraiya was too strong to keep alive for the good guys. So Kishi HAD to kill off Jiraiya.......imo.

Eh, stein I know Jiraiya had a lot of chakra, must have to do sage mode, but thats a lot of summons and techs you want him to do to "easily" win against Pain lol.
As to all 6 bodies being caught in genjutsu and therefore not be able to revive each other...eh...
Jiraiya got 3 bodies, linked to Nagato...
Yet Nagato was able to get out of the genjutsu and release the 3 bodies to revive the other 3.
Nagato can revive bodies from his own body too.
There are 3 unknowns to this
1.Jiraiya or the frogs may have released the Genjutsu once Jiraiya "killed" them thus allowing Nagato to revive them.
2.Nagato had the other 3 hiding-just incase
3.I cant remember...I had it in my head while writing 1 and 2...Ill post it later...
Anyway, it is easy to see how to defeat pain, but weve seen his fighting skills and observed them for MONTHS now lol.
Jiraiya had summons biting at his ass and more bodies kept turning up, and of course he was actually there adrenaline etc.
He fought very well considering who he was up against.
Genjutsu on all 6 bodies seems a very easy way to beat pain...I'm not suggesting he is invulnerable, but he is a smart Ninja...I don't see him allowing such a simple loophole, especially when many Ninjas use Genjutsu...

The only real fight we ever saw by Jiraiya was him vs Pain, the others were rather comedic or limited (3 sannin fight was anti climatic as each one was disabled in some way)
As a result I never liked Jiraiya much or saw him as very powerful.
We only saw him fight properly once against Pain and he used a good array of techs.
He could have sent a shadow clone up but itd simply waste chakra, and theyd realise where hes come from.
He was hiding remember, and if a shadow clone comes from a certain direction they know where he's hiding.
Just denying the inevitable.

from what i can remember of the fight jiraiya was tested but not struggling much when he was fighting 3 paths...he got the summons in genjutsu and killed them...
the entire turning point of the fight was immediately after that...he got surprised by there revival - attacked from behind, and he lost an arm and thus the ability to do techs...
that alongside his..silly toad prophecy...got to find out which one he is 'rubbish'...meant it was inevitable he'd loose...
so i really dislike peaple who troll short answers...pain owned him...jiraiya smells xd (hence my post)
now whether him vs all 6 at once would be equaly balanced or whatever i dont care to speculate. as theres just too many "ifs" and "buts" as we hardly know all of jiraiyas/pains techs

Frog song isnt even part of Jiraiyas powers, hes just lucky the toads had that skill, otherwise the 3 paths would have got him
