Samehada, just a chunk of metal or truly alive?

IMO it was created by putting the soul of a shark or some live being into the blade. So it is truly alive, only it must feed on chakra at least occasionally to stay that way. What do you guys think it is?

As far as I can tell, Its at least sentient and capable of of thought since it chooses the one who wields it though the basis of which it chooses its master seems to be the Quantity/Quality of chakra they possess.
I would say it has the same level of intelligence as an ant, but not much more than that.

It pretty much appears to be a Parasite in the form of a sword which is capable of choosing its host, something along the lines of the Venom Parasite from Spiderman.

Alive to answer your question and not be rude. And it is not that impressive I might add in my personal opinion it gives baxk the chakra it eats to the owner but what has that gotten Kisame so far? A mouth full of shark teeth and press on nails in a large pool of his own saliva what could be worse th breathe or swimming in it. Go KB and if Kisame wants to join the leaf than Go Kisame until then he's sushi on my platter

as of this recent episode it is pretty much confirmed that it is actually alive/sentient. It protects KB, and tries to heal him because it likes his chakra so much! lol

samaheda is definetly alive, the extent of its power without a wielder is unknown but im hoping that kirabi will be its new weilder.
