The only 2 times Kishimoto has ever even nearly come close to Death Note level writing was with the complex depths of Kabuto Yakushi and the psychological destruction of Obito Uchiha. It's just a higher standard of writing. Madara is a standard shounen villain, replace him with Aizen or a Dragonball Z character or something.

Aizen had more depth than Madara ever did,hell almost everything that happened in Bleach can be traced back to him.And the thing is nobody ever knew what motivated Aizen to become what he is,except Ichigo who sort of hinted that Aizen did'nt have any empathy for anyone because he was so much stronger than them.

There's still so much we don't know about Aizen's character and that is what makes him one of the best anime/manga villians of all time in my opinion.I love villians that require digging beneath the surface to see what they are.

Nope,Aizen is a villian who loves planning ahead and making plans for when Plans A,B,C,and D have complications.In short he is a mastermind on the level of characters such as Light Yagami,Aizen influenced the development of Ichigo and wanted to see just how far he can go in terms of power.Aizen also has no moral code and is willing to kill anyone be they ally or enemy if he had no use for them.

He's a poor Villain, a good antagonist, and a nicely written character. I won't put him in Sasuke's league, but he's far from a badly written character.

Yagami Light is a badly written character ... words cannot express it. DN is a crappy manga fueled by plotholes. Light Yagami is illustrated to be this incredibly intelligent guy, yet, when you analyze him, all of his actions are passably intelligent. It's just that the Team he's working with his incredibility retarded - the stupidest people I have ever read about. How did they get into police force is beyond me.

Madara is clearly far more intelligent than Light. The thing is, Light's intelligence is hyped, but it lacks any feats to back up that hype. It's L that is the actual intelligent one.

Executed actions under the disguise of both L and Kira for 5 years and went unsuspected. Managed to kill L and Mello. Light got beat because of PIS only. His subordinate messed up big time without his permission

Even Misa is smarter than 99%. Death Note 2nd half was pretty boring but Light Yagami is still the second smartest anime character after L.

Read my post again - it's not because Light was intelligent, it's because his Team were a band of headless chickens. Nothing they did was even remotely intelligent. They were nothing but a burden on L. You also have to remember than Light had a colossal advantage given that the DNs were safe with him before Higuchi and Rem sided off with him. Even Ryuk tagged along for the heck of it. His actions resulted in Mello's name leaking out. As I said, the guy had huge advantages and still he got caught. His win over L was nothing but a bad plot hole.

Misa is a lot smarter than she looks. She can actually use her brains for strategy, and doesn't make arbitrary decisions. Who is smarter than Light, and deserves to be second smartest anime character? Who can survive against L and CIA alone without getting caught? Light was alone until Misa showed up and his fellow shinigami Ryuk did not help him, unlike Rem who could sacrifice her life for Misa

Light had lots of unfavourable situations and many genius opponents, he has feats of both long term and short term planning
