Obito is the one who helped kill the Uchiha, the one who revealed Itachi's truth to Sasuke and tried to convert him to evil. The one who attacked the leaf with the Kyuubi and put THE WHOLE NARRATIVE IN MOTION. Madara could've honestly been left as a ghost story or a piece of Naruto mythology and I would've been fine with it. Obito is absolutely essential.
He practically is. I really like the two different personas of Obito if anything through the mask. Reminds me of Hei from Darker than Black. Lol

I liked Darker than Black! Even their masks were somewhat similar. Tobi War Mask with his Madara voice was a total badass.

Nice reimagining! I really like what you did with Kabuto's defeat and that timeline arc sounds pretty cool. Also someone finally showing Karin&Suigetsu love. Even if you did kill Karin off D: (it was for the best)

I trust in your version Yamato is still out of sight never mentioned again like the actual manga does?

Hahaha I think that's a terrible flash-forward to start the animated series with. I think it's much better to start out thinking that Pain is just another Akatsuki. If we saw how much of a threat he is right from the start, then the early fights in the series -- Deidara, Kakuzu, Hidan -- would be sort of anticlimactic. I think if anything needs to be changed it should be to do without the flash-forwards altogether.

Oh you think? That's a fair point you have there, but I always found pain's reveal in Shippuden awkward- plus the Storm 2 opening animation is a PERFECT mood setter IMO- either way it's
Not hugely important

Thank you :')

I put quite a lotta effort into my threads but sadly nobody ever really discusses them for too long, which is a shame. I hope you enjoyed!

So does Yamato play a bigger part orrrrr?

Yup. He's present for more arcs (as I sideline Kakashi a surprising amount cough cough) and he's about for the Chikara arc, the Konoha shut-down arc and many others. He's a cool guy!

he WILL still end up in the wall for 4 years in my version though, sorry! (first time ive met a dedicated yamato fan xD)

Sounds good to me, I like how the k11 get more screen time, I was so eager for ten in part 2 but they got put aside. 1 error I your post though, Hinata didn't die and Grt revived Sakura healed her. Also I wouldn't want to see her(Hyuuga fanboy) or Kakashi die.

I'm glad you enjoyed the read! Yeah K11 getting more screentime is a basic must for this series.

And in my head I always just pretended Hinata died there, makes the scene more dramatic. And as much as you like Hinata, surely you have to agree that her death there would've been so much more striking and memorable...it would've made her well-remembered for sure.

I see you've been busy lols. I've basically been planning to do this as well. Though I was thinking of waiting until the series ends.

I like some of your ideas. Like making the K11 more relevant to the story at the start and they being at odds with each other, but beyond that, it seems they are cut off again.

I enjoyed the third movie and chikara arc as well but unfortunately they had nothing to do with the main story, even in your revisions of them so what would be the point of making them canon?

The Konoha lock down arc sounded compelling but it doesn't make sense to me because what was there to lock down lols? The whole village was destroyed at that time. Perhaps the root catacombs?

I don't like Kisame and Itachi suddenly leaving Akatsuki as it would have ruined Itachi's twist of being the lawful good and just doesn't seem coherent with the story, being how random it is. Kisame dying under unknown means was questionable as well.

I think my biggest criticism is why you allow most of the antagonists to survive after their arcs. Sure, some of them surviving is fine but you even let Kimimaro live and he was in part one and sick from the beginning. If he survived, that would contradict he being the candidate for Orochimaru's transmigration before getting sick. Furthermore, Sasori surviving would contradict he being the one to tell them where Orochimaru is.

You also don't explain how Oorchimaru gets the juubi and what happens to Naruto and his son.

The shinobi timeline arc sounds great but the way you present it sounds iffy. one story per episode? Mmmm, I don't think that would be very consistent. It would make things predictable, repetitive and too rushed. The idea is fine, but I would expand on the amount of content. Give each story three to six episodes and cut from one to another sometimes before completing them.

Kabuto becoming emotional seemed kind of out of character to me as well. He had been a cold, calculative character from the start. What exactly would suddenly make him emotional?

They're present in pretty much every arc though, they all get the Team Asuma treatment they got with their arc. With the Pain Invasion arc, Will of Fire and the seperate missions you think they're cut off? I was going more for that part 1 filler vibe, you know the one where Naruto got partnered with the other times quite a lot and went on missions? I LOVED that vibe and it's the only thing in Naruto that really focused on character interaction and gave characters like Shino, Tenten and Ino a chance.

I enjoyed the third movie and chikara arc as well but unfortunately they had nothing to do with the main story, even in your revisions of them so what would be the point of making them canon?

Chikara introduces Kabuto as a proper threat and shows the foundations of the upcoming War arc, more than anything it's a different arc. Actually seeing Team Kakashi go on a 'normal' mission is something we havent seen since the Zabuza arc, of course it turns nasty with Kabuto but it paces out the insane speed and intensity the surrounding arcs are doing. (Jiraiya VS Pain, huge Itachi hunt arc, Pain Invasion etc)

To me the Will of Fire is practically canon already, it's a character development arc more than anything else. I always felt like the actual concept of the 'Will of Fire' was never truly explored and it really is an interesting concept yet in the series it only really seems to belong to Asuma and Shikamaru. This arc strengthens the bond between Kakashi and Naruto and Team 7 as a whole without Sasuke, features all of K11 working together and gives closure to the previous Shikamaru/Asuma storyline. There is a LOT of closure for Shikamaru in this movie which breaks my heart that people don't consider as 'actually happening.'

The Konoha lock down arc sounded compelling but it doesn't make sense to me because what was there to lock down lols? The whole village was destroyed at that time. Perhaps the root catacombs?

Danzo basically makes Konoha a dictatorship and on total hostile lockdown to other villages. Naruto is captured because he's a Jin and Konoha is temporarily against all outside intruders or anybody who would stand against Danzo. (At this point they would've at least rebuilt the gates IMO)

I don't like Kisame and Itachi suddenly leaving Akatsuki as it would have ruined Itachi's twist of being the lawful good and just doesn't seem coherent with the story, being how random it is. Kisame dying under unknown means was questionable as well.
You think? I always saw Itachi as a loose cannon, even before we knew the secret. I don't think this gives it away and Itachi's dialogue would still be shown as ominous, I don't think an audience could still make that leap. And I genuinely just couldn't think up a death for Kisame. Most likely in the clash between the Leaf & the Akatsuki, considering both want his head. He can protect Itachi and make sure nobody interrupts the fight with his brother- it's better than having Suigetsu kill him anyway.

You can still the Tenchi Bridge intel without his death, he can still give it as a 'reward' for his defeat against a shinobi he takes a personal liking to (Kakashi, Shikamaru or Naruto presumably) as it never really was a reward anyway and more a way for Sasori getting the Leaf to do his dirty work.

Kimimaro is more fair but I see that as a minor one and a small change or reason can fix that.

You also don't explain how Oorchimaru gets the juubi and what happens to Naruto and his son.

Honestly I left this as ambiguous on purpose. The idea is that Naruto understands that there is an inescapable cycle- just it doesn't have to be a bad one. He can't break it he and Sasuke should just fix it. And so Naruto gets to guide his son through in the way his own father never could. Orochimaru and the 10 tails is never actually meant to be resolved and is an open ending like Soul Eater or The Incredibles for example. Honestly this final bit is optional, I just personally liked it.

The shinobi timeline arc sounds great but the way you present it sounds iffy. one story per episode? Mmmm, I don't think that would be very consistent. It would make things predictable, repetitive and too rushed. The idea is fine, but I would expand on the amount of content. Agreed. I'd personally give each character 3-5 chapters or so as i'd quite like to get through quite a few of them for the sake of worldbuilding and established some of the future edos, as well as cloaking the hidden Obito Uchiha story (actually relevant) within there to make it less guessable.

Also remember there are real things going on in this arc such as Naruto learning Sage Mode and Sasuke attacking Killer Bee so we shouldn't pull a Studio Perriot and have like 10 episodes of one characters backstory out of nowhere- totally overstaying his welcome (coughkakashi) I just wasn't a fan of how all that stuff and the obligatory training arc was stitched on with the actual Invasion. Pacing.

Kabuto becoming emotional seemed kind of out of character to me as well. He had been a cold, calculative character from the start. What exactly would suddenly make him emotional?
The guy is a nut. By the end of his story anyway- I would never call him cold...he's not very robotic at all and has always been quite an outspoken and cocky character really, after he implants the Oro DNA i'd say somewhat egocentric and unstable actually.

If you're interested the basic revised fight is , and I personally don't see it as being out of character for him. I play up the identity crisis and the slow decay of his sanity over the course of the fight.

Thanks for my favourite post of the thread, hope you enjoyed reading it and i'd love to read yours in perhaps a year or so!

They're present in pretty much every arc though, they all get the Team Asuma treatment they got with their arc.

Are you planning to write that later then because I couldn't make any of it out.

Yes, but the characters are filler characters along with the story. Beyond the arc, there's no more development or lasting meaning for it. For example, Zabuza and Haku. They were the introductory arc and had nothing to do with Orochimaru or Akatsuki, but at the end of the day, they left a lasting effect on the characters, their village was one of the five mains that was expanded on and eventually did wind up being connected to Akatsuki.

To me the Will of Fire is practically canon already, it's a character development arc more than anything else. I always felt like the actual concept of the 'Will of Fire' was never truly explored and it really is an interesting concept yet in the series it only really seems to belong to Asuma and Shikamaru.

I disagree there. The will of fire is the core ideal of the hokages, their founding of Konoha and the villages and making peace with the world. I don't believe every character has to state they follow it in every battle. That would make it stale. Yes, I liked Hiruko as an antagonist and his powers, skills and connections to Kakashi and the sannin were great, but as I stated, beyond that, it is filler and doesn't have a large impact on the story. Perhaps if you gave him minions from several villages similar to Akatsuki and Orochimaru's sound shinobi as well as expanded on Hiruko's story with the sannin and Kakashi more, that would help.

This arc strengthens the bond between Kakashi and Naruto and Team 7 as a whole without Sasuke, features all of K11 working together and gives closure to the previous Shikamaru/Asuma storyline.

I think Asuma and Shikamaru's storyline had enough closure in the hidan and kakauzu arc as well as the forth war. Well, maybe a little more development in the war but I believe Kishimoto's douchebag editors and publishers forced him to rush it in several parts.

There is a LOT of closure for Shikamaru in this movie which breaks my heart that people don't consider as 'actually happening.'

But Shikamaru already received his closure in the hidan and kakuzu arc. He defeated Hidan, acknowleded the will of fire and let Asuma go after one last mourning for him and then quitting his smoking lols. Even in the war arc, he was incredibly focused and did not break down when he saw Asuma and when Asuma returned to the afterlife because he had already let him go. Shikamaru doesn't exactly need closure either considering he became a captain in the war, a chuunin proctor, fire guardian candidate and now wishes to be Naruto right hand man if not the hokge himself.

Danzo basically makes Konoha a dictatorship and on total hostile lockdown to other villages.

Yes and I like the idea, but it just isn't consistent with the timeline. Konoha was a pile of rubble with barely a stable wall at the time. It had no defense so how could it possibly be a hostile threat? Now if you wish to make the root catacombs danzou's last stand, almost like a world of warcraft raid lols that's good, but I don't get the whole village lockdown part. I doubt many would have followed danzou anyway. Everyone knew he was an ursurper bastard and they were all loyal to Tsunade. He didn't even let them vote. He just silver tongued his way through the elders and the daimyo and took advantage of the village being ruined and the upcoming kage summit.

Naruto is captured because he's a Jin and Konoha is temporarily against all outside intruders or anybody who would stand against Danzo.

Okay, how exactly would they capture Naruto then? Who would capture him? Danzou? How would they overcome the kyuubi, his mass clones and senjutsu? We're talking about the main character who defeated the leader of Akatsuki.

You think? I always saw Itachi as a loose cannon, even before we knew the secret.

I had my suspicians, but I was never sure, and countless believe there wasn't enough foreshadowing for it and that Kishimoto changed him from what he initially wanted him to be.

I don't think this gives it away and Itachi's dialogue would still be shown as ominous, I don't think an audience could still make that leap.

But you just said you did lols. you said you always considering him a loose canon. But fair point I suppose.

And I genuinely just couldn't think up a death for Kisame. Most likely in the clash between the Leaf & the Akatsuki, considering both want his head. He can protect Itachi and make sure nobody interrupts the fight with his brother-

You have to remember though, Kisame was incredibly loyal to Tobi. You'd have to weigh that with his loyalty to Itachi. Kisame is a character with ideals and principles himself after all.

it's better than having Suigetsu kill him anyway.

I actually have several ideas how to kill Kisame in my version and having a difficult time choosing one and yes Suigetsu is one version lols. I actually liked the rivalry they began developing.

Fair point, although I really liked Sasori's death. I believe it was built up well with Chiyo, his backstory, how formidable Deidara made him out to be and how long and epic his fight was. I just don't see any reasoning behind letting him live beyond his arc unless you wish to keep his backstory under wraps or make him relevant later. For Deidara, it made sense because he had a backstory with Itachi and his background was left underwraps. See what I'm saying?

Kimimaro is more fair but I see that as a minor one and a small change or reason can fix that.

I look forward to it. I forgot to mention it did have a bit of a compelling streak to it by making him Karin's mother's killer, although I think that role could have been handled to any number of other antagonists including a completely new one. You'd probably also have to completely reshape Kimimaro;s fight with Gaara and Lee as I think it greatly influenced Gaara and Kimimaro's ideals were shaken it in just before he died.

Lol I like open endings, but not THAT open. Yes, my ending involves Orochimaru too, albeit a bit differently. I like Naruto accepting conflict as the human condition however as it keeps things realistic.

I just wasn't a fan of how all that stuff and the obligatory training arc was stitched on with the actual Invasion. Pacing.

I thought it fit pretty well. In the end, Naruto could not defeat Pein with just his senjutsu and had to break him down with his berserked Kyuubi cloak.

The guy is a nut. By the end of his story anyway- I would never call him cold...he's not very robotic at all and has always been quite an outspoken and cocky character really.

Maybe I chose my words wrong. What I meant was he almost always seemed calm even when things unexpected happened. He was very intelligent and always had a backup plan. Maybe if you explained what would make him emotional and break him down, I could understand? Possibly Itachi playing words games with him? Dredging up his past throughout the fight? But in the end, it wouldn't be much of a fight because Kabuto would be emotionally ailed. Sure Itachi went easy on Sasuke, but he still hit him with all his techs and brought everything he had out, which in the end weakened Sasuke.

If you're interested the basic revised fight is , and I personally don't see it as being out of character for him. I play up the identity crisis and the slow decay of his sanity over the course of the fight.

I'll check it out soon. I didn't really comprehend him losing his mind, just being consumed a bit with power. If he were nuts, he wouldn't have been as calculative as he was in that fight and Itachi and Sasuke TOGETHER no less wouldn't have struggled with him.

Thanks for my favourite post of the thread, hope you enjoyed reading it!

Sure thing and I did.

Sai dying like that? He needs to have more character development before dying off.

All this extra stuff would make the series way too clumsy and awkward, it just wouldn't work anyway.

One of the best qualities in the series is how well everything is executed overall, with excellent pacing. Although it's absolutely necessary to read the manga from the start and through till now to see this.

This would turn it into a sort of fractured narrative, which just isn't the modus operandi for this genre, and for a very good reason.

I'd also like to point out sealing the Juubi within a baby is probably impossible, as Minato struggled with just half of the Kyuubi.
