Most people seem to prefer the manga and they cite that the reasons are: the anime is too slow and the animation is ugly.

In my experience, I started out with the anime in early 2013 and then I watched up until the Skypiea Arc and then read the big arcs to catch up faster and when I caught up, the anime was at the Punk Hazard Arc.

Reading the manga was amazing, however, when my friends and family were curious about One Piece, I re-watched the entire series (right now in PH) with some of them by watching a couple of episodes per day. The anime is fantastic IMO and the slow pacing is fine for the adventure feel. Yes, some arcs are way too long and some episodes are not necessary but you can watch at you discretion and still not miss out on the major events.

The animation and quality got a lot better as well:

In conclusion, the anime is underrated and if you ever want to show people One Piece, I think the anime is better than the manga to introduce people as most are foreign to the concept of reading black and white pictures for fun and it doesn't really interest them. Animation brings the drawings to life and gives it such a great adventure feeling. So, just have patience and sit back and enjoy the anime you will not regret watching so many episodes and you don't have to worry about catching up, it's not a race.

Dude you only showed the hyped episodes. The animation sucks, but I still watch it cause I like One Piece.

I'm saving that Law gif :yay:

Eh, some cases I agree. But the anime tends to draw some things out too much. You remember the scene where Monet was about to push the button to explode the lab before Caesar pierced her heart? She was moaning for like 5 min! It was ridiculous Lol The anime does do well with bringing out the feels of the manga, it really does. I just wish they would cover more in one episode. I realize that it's mostly a chapter a episode which isn't always enough IMO. Some episodes would be better if the anime wouldn't try so hard to drag out a chapter.

The anime was epic till the time-skip(even at the beginning it was somewhat unique even though it's very old). The quality is dropping since then, I just hope they get their shit together for the epic fights.

I agree to some levels but sometimes the anime butchers the story the manga is trying to tell in regards to character strengths etc. For instance Luffy spent 2 years mastering his DF and can now do Gear second with just a single part of his body but in the anime it always shows him going full body gear 2nd. It was the same with Smoker's fight on Punk Hazard with Vergo they added extra filler parts to the fight which made Smoker look weaker (The fight was awesome but still) or when the anime had Luffy struggle to knock back Caesar with grizzly magnum.

I think the main problem people have with the anime is that it makes the characters seem weaker and also drags out with fillers (Which is understandable since if the anime is catching up with the manga it's always going to happen)

I understand what everybody is saying about the pacing but can you address the part where I said that it is better to show people the anime and not the manga as an introduction, as well as the point of the quality increasing...

The first part makes no sense and the second part is just not true.

Overhyped among fans, what does that even mean ? Maybe other people besides the fans might think it's overhyped by the fans. But I don't think that is the case because it gets all the credit it deserves. You can't overhype the best manga of all times.

yea very convincing, top 10 manga dudes..

No way that the author of the best selling manga and the current most popular manga is at 9 on any list, especially not behind Kishi. and who the hell would make the top 3 according to you Toriyama probably and that would be about it.

Come with a source or stop poking your brain to hard through your nose, you're talking crap.

Anime at the start is pretty good.
The pacing got alot slower post MF I believe, after that alot seemed dragged out.

I am still waiting for Fuji to stop being slow mo and his attack actually starts going through

The anime was better Pre-skip imo. Hopefully it gets better again. The animators have gotten lazy and the pacing is slower then a limping snail. I also hate the fact that when Luffy uses G2 in the anime he fully turns red. Post-Skip he can use G2 on limbs alone which he does in the manga but the anime keeps bullshitting him.
