Why Didn't Madara just give Obito his Rinnegan?

Madara gave Nagato his rinnegan without explaining anything to him, and instead made Obito his main b!tch, so to speak. How does that make any sense? If anything, shouldn't Madara have taken into account that Nagato's Uzumaki heritage could keep him from sympathizing with an Uchiha?

He did have the Will of Fire before Hanzo and Danzo's shenanigan's (and Obito's corruption); how could that have been Madara's plan? Nagato wasn't even an orphan when he got the Rinnegan.

first of all,, welcome to the base!!!

anyways, I think Madara thought that Obito wouldn't be able to control the rinnegan, that's why he chose a child with Uzumaki heritage to have it..

Madara obviously knew that this small boy was an uzumaki and that his eye would be preserved in this boy as opposed to himself. (since he literally just got the rinnigan at that point.) He probably was planning to keep it secret and so he needed another to keep watch over the boy and teach him how to revive Madara/ someone who was not famous to gather the tailed beasts into the statue.

Welcome, I suppose. Try and be unbiased even if you're favorite character is brought into it.

Thanks Guys! And trust me, I have no bias. I love most characters.

So I get that he gave his eyes to Nagato before he met Obito, but then what was his plan? He didn't ever bother to talk to Nagato. If his plan was originally just to use Nagato then he should have given him the same corrupting treatment he gave Obito. I just think giving it to Nagato was a pretty reckless gamble, considering he received no Uchiha-minded guidance until Nagato was well into his teens and had been trained by Jiraya. Anyone could have stolen his eyes by then, or he could have died.

To be fair it was before he met Obito

Madara also had Zetsu. Who I am assuming would have been a fail safe

When I say fail safe

Madara only "killed himself" once obito took his place , maybe he intended on having Zetsu bring nagato to him to mold him

Lol, this is true and exposes the pointlessness of this thread

Not really, because it doesn't explain why he never said a word to Nagato, and left him alone until he was a teenager. Also, nothing was stopping him from getting his eyes back and giving them to the new, promising young Uchiha he had now chosen as his successor, as the "new Madara"

He would have approached Nagato just like Obito did, but probably through zetsus somehow.

He wasn't expecting Obito to show up. I think his plan was to let Zetsu do Obito's job, and have Nagato form the Akatsuki.

Obito already had the sharingan and could use mokuton style very effectively, madara rather have two members on his side than to have only one, the more powerful members with powerful techniques the better.

Madara didn't give obito the rinnegan not because he could not control the rinnegan but because he wanted obito to take his place and manipulate the akatsuki, nagato was meant to be the sacrifice for resurrection technique to revive madara in his prime form.
If madara had given the rinnegan to obito, obito would would immediately betray madara cuz he didn't want to sacrifice his life for madara.

I guess that makes the most sense. Thank you for actually giving thought to the subject matter, most people seem to quickly dismiss questions without thinking through.

I'm sorry to those who think this thread is pointless. My only remaining question is, why did Madara leave Nagato alone for so long? Any number of things could have happened. I do not know how old he was when Tobito approached him, but it seemed like he was in his teens. How his Rinnegan didn't attract attention to him is beyond me; if byakugans and sharingans and are sought after all over the nations, wouldn't a rinnegan really stand out?

Even Shisui predicted that battles would break out over his one remaining eye. Leaving young Nagato alone (with a living Uzumaki family) with the freaking eye of the Sage of Six Paths himself... does no one see how this was reckless?
