[Discussion] Your opinion on birthdays?

What is your guys' opinion on birthdays? Today is my 18th birthday, so I figured this thread was relevant.

On one hand, I see birthdays as just another day. I don't feel any different, look any different, et cetera. I'm still the me that I was yesterday.

On the other hand, there's the part of me that wants to celebrate my birthday (especially my 18th), probably because that's what society has taught us to do.

On my foot, I guess, there's the cynic in me that notices that I'm one more day/alphanumerical year closer to death.

Anyways, those are me three viewpoints on birthdays. What about you guys?

I really don't celebrate birthdays, il do something for my 18th, but that's it.

Birthday's become less about materialism and more about self reflection as you get older. It's a good time to see where you are as a person and how far you've come along since the last year ( kind of like your own personal new years ). However what it really means is that you've survived another year ( doesn't matter how good or bad, you're here ) and that in and of itself is worth celebrating, so enjoy your day mate, go out and have fun!

My birthday besides one other day in the year for a specific reason is the most important day of the year for me. For a few years now I haven't celebrated it in the traditional manner. So it isn't just a day for me.

And I'm happy to be one day closer to death.

"Being one day closer to death" proves that birthdays are about life, not death! Plus, the same can be said about all holidays (not just personal ones, and even regular days for that matter). Try to have an assload of fun on your birthday. There's no reason not to and you probably deserve it.

I've yet to have a b-day where something doesn't go wrong, so I'm not too big on them. lol I am not young but look young so to me age is only a number. If you act your exact age, you'll age quicker I find.
