How is it bs, naruto most likely used yang release(which he got from the sage in extra proportions) to breathe life into gai's body. Of course gai has lost a leg which is a shame though. I am not sure if naruto can "save" gai but at the absolute worst he can prolong his life. ON a related note, sasuke probably has yin release, so he would be able to create form out of nothing-so he could potentially fix gai's leg. Although that is all speculation at this point.

why should he die? it was never stated that you couldn't potentially save someone from the 8th gates just that using the technique will kill you, also if you wanna best show narutos new found abilities then you have him do something that people wouldn't think possible like preventing a user of the 8th gate from dying.
