So recently, there's been numerous "Top five villain" threads loitering around on the Base. In this category, I would usually see "Obito/Tobi" in the top three, but my question is, could he even be considered a villain? Obito for a good portion of his life was a lost soul, almost dying, seeing his thirteen year-old crush die, then being manipulated by Madara Uchiha himself. Everything Obito did, it was according to Madara's plan, even if you say, "Well, uhm, Obito wasn't going to revive him.." Black Zetsu was on watch, he could've tooken over when need be. All i'm trying to say is, Obito's action are centered around Rin. He wants the perfect world for he and her to live together in peace & harmony, or some **** like that. He just went about doing so in a wrong way.

So, did/do you consider "Tobi/Obito (not recently)" a villain..?

I considered Tobi to be a villain, especially when he played the role of Madara. But then, it's almost as if his character was going from a villain to an antagonist after the reveal of the Moon Eye's Plan. From there, Obito became an antagonist, a character who was up against the main hero due to his misguided ideals and sense of peace which would allow him to be perceived as a villain.

In his 'villainous' days I did. I considered him to be such but then again I had this definition in mind:
1. (in a film, novel, or play) a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.
Dat Terrorizing Mask.

He knows the difference between right & wrong, & he chose to do wrong, thus that makes him a villain.

Would you consider a mass murderer a righteous person because he was doing it for some "greater good"? of course not.

I agree with you and don't consider him a villain. Just Misguided and Manipulated. Especially, since he was young and being an Uchiha.

It really doesn't matter if he was misguided, he knows that killing an innocent is wrong, but he still did it.

If he really wasn't a villain & was just considered to be misguided then he would find a non-lethal way to go about his plan. While his views may be wrong, he would still have a moral compass, he isn't insane or wasn't raised to believe that killing is justifiable, so that would make him a villain.

Through Madara's manipulation that is.

Obito WAS a villain who BECAME "good".. It's stupid to say he wasn't a villain.

Initially I considered him a villain, but there's not really denying in the later stages of his development he was more of an antagonist.

Honestly I won't consider anyone but Naruto a good person. Most of the characters killed people. Ninja system doesn't have a good or bad side.

That doesn't matter, as I said he's killed innocents & killed them mercilessly, now if madara told him that killing people is a good thing that must be done then that would change things, because he would then not know what is right & what is wrong.

seeing how he is now, i dont think so. but when he was still a big villain, i think thats the point where he's worth 3rd position. the same goes with itachi. i dont say they both are not villain. they used to be ones, they're just not anymore so yeah

biggest villain IMO:

madara
pain (yahiko)
itachi
orochimaru
obito

he is commiting villianous acts, yet his motivation is based on making a better world for the one he loves...

truly he is a villian, but he has similar qualities of a hero...

kinda like Nagato or Madara, just with less RIN! RIN! RIN!...

Obito is, in my opinion, the best written character in this manga. But he is still a villain at the end of the day. His negative actions far outweigh any good that he has done. The war is essentially his fault. I can see why he was driven to do what he did, but simply because he is relatable, and with motives driven by emotion and "love" doesn't erase the numerous bad deeds he has been a part of, whether directly or indirectly.

Some people don't understand the difference between villain and antagonist. Villain is someone who is evil from the heart. Antagonist is reflection of protagonist, but doesn't have to be evil.

Few chapters before he turns good, Kakashi confirmed it that Obito is wanting to find out if Naruto wants to give up on his dream, and the fact he keeps sparing him alive. Not to mention, Obito wants to cast Genjutsu, where people can have their dreams come true. He may be taking the will of people, but he is not hurting them at all.

So, he is good guy from the inside, but bad guy based on his actions. So, i count him balanced, or more good at least. An actual villain and evil is Madara, Orochimaru, Kakuzu, and Hidan.

No I get it, I'm just saying it wouldn't change things in the end.

Obito is an antagonist & a villain

There are a lot of parallels to Tobi and Darth Vader that I see. He was a villain while he was doing evil, but he was always just a puppet for the grand schemer.
