Looking at the skill set of each individual ninja on each team. Do you think the genins skills were allocated in the best possible combinations?

Specialties by teams in Part 1 when the teams were first assigned.

Team 7
Naruto: Ninjutsu - applications combat
Sasuke: Ninjutsu - applications combat
Sakura: Genjutsu - dispelling and detecting
Kakashi: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, summonings - applications various

Team 8
Hinata: Byagukan - applications detection, espionage, combat
Kiba: Ninjutsu - applications hunter/tracker, combat
Shino: Ninjutsu - applications espionage
Kurenai: Genjutsu, Ninjutsu - applications various

Team 10
Shikamaru: Ninjutsu -applications defense
Ino: Ninjutsu - application espionage
Choji: Ninjutsu- application combat
Asuma: Ninjutsu, Taijutsu -applications various

Team Guy
Lee: Taijutsu - applications combat
Neji: Taijutsu, Byakugan - applications detection, espionage, combat
Tenten: Weapon scrolls applications combat
Guy: Taijutsu, Genjutsu, summonings - applications various

This is a rough breakdown of the K12 and their Jonin senseis.

You look at team Guy and you have 3 people who specialize in taijutsu.

Team Kurenai has 3 ninja who specialize in espionage, tracking and intel gathering but only 1 (Kiba) as good offensive capabilities.

Team Asuma has two ninja who's abilites are purely defensive (although they make a good combination together) and Choji is the literal tank of that squad.

Team Kakashi has Sasuke on the team. With the Uchiha clan's rep for fire style and sharingan jutsu; we know Sasuke is going to be a combat ninja. A perfect match for Kakashi's own abilities to instruct. Naruto was a failure at the academy but his kage bushin make him versatile. Sakura is book smart sure, but in the field (Land of Waves) she was kind of in the back not doing anything.

Granted this is before anyone knew Sasuke and Naruto's full purpose. Sasuke would've become a great ninja regardless because he had Kakashi mentoring him and because he is an Uchiha and genius. Naruto under Kakashi's instruction was neglected to put it politely. Had he remained with Kakashi Naruto would probably never reach his dream of becoming Hokage. Let alone be able to keep up with Sasuke.

They each have their own specialty. Team Guy focuses on close combat (with exception of Tenten.) kurenai's squad focuses on tracking and sensory skills. Team 10 have a famous combination. Team 7 is just utter rape.

In Part 2 maybe. But that's largely for things not done together as Team 7. Having the 3 Sannin as your masters would benefit any ninja. Naruto is ahead due to his history with Kurama (balancing chakra for sage mode included) and Sasuke comes from a prodigious clan. Kakashi is strong in his own right due to his own hard work and dedication. And bringing up the rear is Sakura, who gets super strength just to make her not useless in a fight. Great medic though.

Agreed. I don't know the Konoha officials who set the teams up were smoking when they did this. Let's put a jin and an Uchiha on the same team, but attempt to equalize it by throwing in an uber-fodder kunoichi.

Team 7 was originally created as:

Top Genin, Smartest Genin, Dead-Last

I think the arrangement was meant to form a strong team based on teamwork because, in order for the dead-last to catch up, their other teammates should be able to help them.

That makes a lot of sense. Team 7 is very mismatched in terms of skill set. Sasuke and Sakura had the makings of good (Sasuke would've been splendid regardless) ninja, while Naruto was a lost cause. Things are different now of course, all 3 are very big guns in the shinobi war.

If Sasuke and Naruto had stayed in the village under Kakashi, do you think they would've been as good as the other Konoha teams?

Hm... no. Not really. I mean, Kakashi's priorities in Part 1 were biased towards Sasuke when he should've been paying more attention to Naruto and Sakura. I guess this might be because Jiraiya was in Konoha at the time of the month before the final portion of the Chuunin Exam and he figured that Naruto and Jiraiya might run into each other, but Sakura was left to the wayside without any teacher. He could've at least set her up with someone to train her while he trained Sasuke like he did with Naruto.

In Part 2, he starts to get it together, but since Sakura was mostly under the tutelage of Tsunade, he couldn't do much for er but ask that she gives Naruto moral support.

They were picked for reasons, but i still don't get why 3 trackers have given to a genjutsu specialist.

Iruka said something like best and worst students of the classes would put in same team for balancing things.
Sasuke was best, Naruto was worst.
Neji was best, Lee was probably worst.
Shino was best among Team 8 as i recall, Kiba was probably near bottom.

^this for the trackers comment. I mean seriously how overmatched in one thing can you get? Like Team Guy being composed of 3 cqc ninja and one mid range ninja (Tenten). Spread the abilities around ya foos.

Reincarnations are nothing compared to their Sensei who wields the God's Authority i.e. Kamui

Yeah, the teams were pretty skewed. Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi alone can solo nations while the other teams are jounin tier at best.

They should have known Naruto and Sasuke would become way too OP with their heritage and latent powers. Plus, their sensei is already med-high Kage level. It's like they intended Team Kakashi to be the heart of Konoha's power and the rest were support, specializing in tracking, halting enemy progress, and taijutsu/physicality.

I think it was put Naruto with the two highest-achieving students because he himself barely got out of the Academy. Having Kaskashi as the sensei was an obvious choice. But yeah kind of dumb of them not to consider the fact that they were putting the 9 Tails jinchuriki and an Uchiha on the same team in regards to the balance of the whole system
