MEI TERUMI VS ZABUZA

Well to put it bluntly, Mei absolutely overwhelms with huge water and fire/lava jutsu. The size and heat of the fire jutsu will make the fog evaporate in seconds. She has mist techniques of her own as well as total knowledge of Zabuza's jutsu and fighting style. Zabuza is a one-trick pony with his hidden mist but Mei is a user of the same technique, so Mei is known to be capable of fighting within mist.

What will a water prison do when Mei can expand it and use it to drown Zabuza? She is an awesome kunoichi who earned the role of Kage a lot more than a lot of people. She took control and saved the most twisted village and has worked tirelessly to recreate diplomatic relations with other villages, as well as reform internal policies. She literally saved their village and you need a strong ninja to take command of the Mist, especially being an attractive woman- she earned her role more than anyone else.

Her mist jutsu is way more effective and can even act as a wind style jutsu. This mist has extremely corrosive properties, capable of melting even the bones of Sasuke Uchiha's Susanoo so goodbye Executioners Blade. Zabuza will be hugely limited with his own mist jutsu because the risk of his clouding hers, which is much more deadly and whole lot more instant. So with the Executioners Blade and Mist jutsu unusable what have we got left? A less impressive water user with a few taijutsu feats. Because they'll be a big help against Mei. Wish Zabuza was still alive so Mei could put him in his place.

ONOKI VS ZABUZA

Little really has to be said here, Zabuza's long-range jutsu are his only chance but again it just comes to the pure overwhelming nature of fighting a kage. Zabuza was shown to have to put a LOT of time into one offensive Water Dragon. Onoki can lift huge boulders and golems instantly at once, it just comes down to the fact that Zabuza simply has a special jonin moveset and can't compete with that of a Kages. Flight, ridiculously fast speed and small size make Onoki a tough target. Particle style deals with him, his water prisons (as if he'd get caught in one in the first place) and his sword.

Any ninja with flight and that is fast automatically has the edge on Zabuza. The mist and sword become ineffective and Zabuza becomes limited to running and water style jutsu. Golems work as Onoki's defensive jutsu before Onoki is on him and disintegrates him. (Did you see how fast it was against Sasuke)

AY VS ZABUZA

In my opinion, this is the kage Zabuza goes the furthest with, being blind isn't a good thing for Ay to be, and in reality he has no real counter for it. Lightning is a straight trump against water style and A's best strategy will be his lightning speed, which is even faster than Zabuza and even his silent killing feats.

Even if Zabuza can see him, he's going to have trouble cutting him down when combining his physical strength, durability and speed as factors. He'll have to violently and quickly dart around the arena like a pinball in the hope of colliding with him. Because with that speed it's only a matter of time because when he does...boom. Zabuza isn't escaping that. Then again, Ay (as shown in the fight with Naruto) can jump insanely high and could jump above the mist all-together, locating his target. Ultimately his lightning armour makes Zabuza's arsenal pretty lacklustre and incapable of doing anything too major. And when that mist clears then....eesh. Goodbye Momochi.

TSUNADE VS ZABUZA

This one is a personal favourite match-up of mine. Earlier this thread had me convinced that Zabuza as an opponent could give Tsunade a lot of trouble. Nope. Tsunade has great counters for it all. Let's go through them one by one. Okay, so first problem is the mist right? A problem for Tsunade yes, but not a total game-ender. Katsuyu can sense and Tsunade has amazing reflexes and hearing. The mist only works if Zabuza strike her, which will be difficult to do within the shield of Katsuyu, the executioners blade is useless against her and Zabuza gets sprayed with searing acid.

The size of Katsuyu trumps anything Zabuza can muster and with his sword and water jutsu (against a slug) he has nothing to combat this tricky summon. Tsunade is a very agile and flexible ninja, as in she can adapt to undesirable situations much like Kabuto could as displayed in their fight. The way he overcame the nervous system flip and the she overcame her haemophobia show adaptability and show she will grow accustomed to the mist and be able to fight in it. Hand to hand combat now, even with Katsuyu still seems like a trouble for her right? Wrong again. Tsunade has experience against kenjutsu ninja (Hanzo, Oro etc.) and may struggle to fight a giant sword with her bare fists. Luckily, Tsunade doesn't have to punch him.

Her punches have such colossal radius that it'll be Zabuza on the run. Tsunade could throw punches like that all over the place and Zabuza would be pulverised. Even if you take Katsuyu out of it she stands fair chances, because Tsunade knows that if Zabuza tries to get too close with his hands to do the water prison jutsu (which would admittedly kill Tsunade), Zabuza can't get that close because Tsunade can simply reach out and tap him to flip his nervous system in a second. More instant and game-ending than a water prison. If Zabuza gets struck with this whilst trying to go close range, which is his only real chance then the game is absolutely over and Tsunade will be on the defenceless Zabuza until he's dead. He's not Kabuto and very few ninja can work out the nervous system flip until it's too late like Kabuto could (remember, expert medic). Aaaaaaaaand don't even get me started on her regeneration abilities.

GAARA VS ZABUZA

And then finally, Gaara. Gaara depending on his location can end this match low difficulty but he gets normal terrain and medium difficulty to make things more interesting. With the newly acquired Shukaku this is also a stomp. To put it simply, Zabuza is not getting into that dome shield. If Gaara wants to fly or play the absolute defensive from within his shield than he can because no metal from any sword is piercing that shelter and Zabuza has no piercing moves without his sword.

For similar reasons as Mei, Gaara is an opponent who simply overwhelms with lots of jutsu and HUGE scale jutsu combined, sometimes both at once if the situation arises. And also previously discussed like Onoki, Gaara has aerial abilities but lacks from not being quite as fast as Onoki. This is fine though because whereas Onoki can outspeed Zabuza, Gaara can play a full offensive. Zabuza has to do many handsigns to do the majority of his jutsu which gives Gaara ample warning to not just defend (sand does that automatically) but also plan a counter attack. He has too many jutsu to talk about but until Zabuza gains some defensive techniques of his own he isn't surviving a sand shower or a sand tsunami.

How's THAT for analysis. In summary, Zabuza is a very strong ninja who definitely has earned his rank among the Special Jonin 5- and that's a great spot to be in, but Zabuza simply does not have enough of an impressive moveset to contend with these monsters. They're Kages for a reason and there's also a reason you don't see swordsmen paired against Kage often- because the result is obvious.

It's unlucky for you that so many of them have counters to the Hidden Mist jutsu...that's what makes Zabuza a viable threat, it's a one-trick pony but the Hidden Mist is a huge environmental change jutsu and it's awesome. Of course if you have enemies with huge scale and scope, experience with Hidden Mist or just absolute defenses all together....then you're left with what Zabuza essentially is. A swordsman jonin with a few water jutsu.​

I can agree that Zabuza is underrated, but I see him as high jounin max. Though, his forte is being an assassin, his blade was meant to rip heads off in a single slice. He'd attack when the Kage least expected it and exploit that.

assassinations dont count its 1v1 facing each other fight, im sure even deidara could kill itachi if he caught him off guard at the right moment

Gaara = Strongest in Suna

Mei = no shes is stronger than any mist ninja shown, including the 7 swordsman and Kisame and others.

Kakashi = nominated because he is the most famous of the jounins and arguably the stronger one.... however, it was all put to the side when Tsunade cameback.

Zabuza = Asuma level.

My gripe was with the notion that Gaara would defeated by Zabuza. You still havent explained how Zabuza could get past Gaara's defenses.

Water > Sand (proven in the manga).
Zabuza would just use his best jutsu: Water Style Vortex and Gaara's defenses would be literally destroyed (that Jutsu is incredibly powerful).

Meh Gaara's sand seemed to work fine when he Mixed it with Mei's suiton.

Even if this was the case, The amount of water zabuza can controll isn't that great compared to the amount of sand gaara can controll at any one time.

In this this moment Zabuza would be really useless because how the time flies Kishi makes more and more godlike techniques.. And I think it´s pretty boring.

But nobody can disprove me that Zabuza´s story was one of the best in Naruto series.

@bold: This whole thread is full of evidence showing otherwise. Mei hard counters his jutsus to an extent i'd consider a bad match-up.
None of those is kage level (except the girls). How does that make him kage level? :|
