That's the thing I don't understand in the whole Madara vs Obito debate. People give Obito tons of shit for wanting to create the dream world, but it was Madara's idea first. He was the one who convinced Obito this reality isn't worth existing and came up with the plan in the first place.
I can't see why the dots don't connect in there.
Because madara, obito and nagato have different ends even if the have the same start. The all went insane because someone died. However;
Madara's solution is based on research into the history of NV and an understanding of the start of everything. First thing you have to notice is that madara's solution was in fact the same as hashirama/naruto/blah blah (create a village system and peace what not). However, he then read the uchiha tablet and then he decided that it's probably better to create a world where he forcibly stops people from using their spiritual energy for self power. After doing that, he then plans on making people connect their spiritual energies with each other, using his body as a 'router'. That was, because everyone can understand each other, violencee can be theoretically avoided.
Madara's using forcible restraint.
Nagato's Solution is based around the idea that the strong get what the want; That fear and power control people and make them docile. Due to this mentality, nagato saw it fit that the best approach to peace was to collect the tailed beasts; With that much power, no one would dare disobey his absolute rule.
Nagato's using Terror.
Obito's Solution is to escape the world and enter a dream world where everything goes his way. He says this. Kakashi says this. Even naruto suggests this by telling him to stop denying his existence and the whole tnj shit. And, this all happened because he witnessed some chick die -> Which was the moment he self proclaimed he was in hell. Which was the moment he decided to go back to a madman(madara) instead of back to his village; He had the choice. Which is the moment he decided to go along with the 'nonsense' this madman was telling him, instead of going home; he had that choice. Obito never needed to go evil, he still had minato, kakashi and any other friends he made. All he did was lose rin, hear of the idea that he can make a dream world with her in it and jumped right onto that.
Obito's trying to escape reality and dragging everyone into his shit.
Those are the big differences between those 3. Even gaara and orochimaru were a 'main villains'. However, their start and end differ greatly to those 3.
