Long post is coming so, beware yourself.XD
It is rather ironic that I was watching Rahul Gandhi and congress campaign on women empowerment before a while. u.u
Yea lack of willingness- that's what I was referring to when I said they post only if they are bore or angry at a gf etc.
Lack of willingness pretty much depends upon poster, so let's keep it aside for a while.
I don't have to go far to see the condition of women - just around me. Like the maid who works for my mum was absent for three days - because her good for nothing husband was drunk by the time it was lunch time and even neglected to care for their little daughter whom she had left with him to baby sit. And when she protested he beat her up so badly that she needed medical attention. she has no education or parental support either and while I could tell her to go to police but I didn't because I know she doesn't have enough means to put up a proper fight. No I am not in condition to extend that kind of support myself. All I could do was to try to stand up her for herself and offered her pain killers in the mean time.
It is 'Kahani ghar ghar ki, Ira. Single women have to suffer from even greater problems, my maid is a prime example of that. She has four daughters, her husband died before four years and moreover she leaves in Asia's biggest slum, Dharavi. Before few days her daughter suffered through a prolonged illness and she had to spend most of her money on her treatment, but luckily she works in sophisticated area like mine, and hence people helped her by gathering the donations and all.
She was literally crying when chairperson of my society offered her that money, I don't know why but I really felt bad for her that day, and when I look at people debating online, seating in front of lappy/PC, having nice 3G internet connection and talking about Feminism without knowing what is ground reality, I feel sad.
That when I asked her on last Diwali whether she would like me to buy her a dress ( as a Diwali gift) or would she prefer cash so that she could buy something she likes for herself. She asked me to buy and said if she took money home it would be just taken away from her by her husband and she won't get anything. She carries a cell phone but she cannot even read numbers on it. She is not an isolated case either and if I try to help I may as well start an NGO.
Actually that's the main reason which made me said that we need feminism, and that is dominance. It has always been bombarded into us that male is the dominant person of our society and which resulted into this type of mindset.
This is actually the main reason due to which feminism came into existence, it was to bring equality, but it is long term process and it will take time, because we have to change the mindset, and it can't be done overnight.
When I go to school to pick my son up I notice, 3/4 of the kids are boys only. I was talking to a teacher and she said that it was a common trend - there are far less girls than there should be according to male female ratio even at primary level.
I don't know in which state of India you leave, because this is the situation commonly found in rural areas, but I have to agree. I think the main reason behind this the mindset of ' women should just get married and have children', although things have changed pretty much. I couldn't stop myself from bringing in example of my grandma.
She studied till fourth standard, but had great knowledge in almost everything even though she didn't know how to read/write English. She still had a great memory, was a great cricket fan, loved Sanskrit and had knowledge of politics. It was always a delight to watch cricket match with her, or discuss with her. She always used to tell me that, the only thing she lacks in life, is education.
Female foeticide is such a big problem in certain pockets here that it's sickening. A pregnant friend was told she was carrying a female foetus and was hinted that they could get it aborted - the couple chose not to and changed the doc. And you know what, it was not even a girl. The infant turned out to be a male. That scumbag doc was just making a quick money because of people wanting a male child only.
Women end up on abortion table whether want it or not if the husband don't want to kid and while some others may have to go though labor for unwanted kids because they are not given a choice at all. It's a terrible place they are in where they simply cannot make a decision based on their personal reasons and medical conditions.
This reminded me of

from my state. It is such a cruel way of killing female fetus that it makes me think that whether this couple is human or not.
The list may go on and on ... It's bit sad that people do not realize how horribly this trend is going to affect us in future. Even now there are some villages in Western India where the guys are either stay unmarried or have to go looking for a bride to another state even simply because there are no girls of marriageable age in their own region due to mass female foeticide.
Actually the male community is so much blinded by the habit of domination that they don't even want to look ahead. Feminism is after effect that, when I look at this examples, and think that do we need feminism answer comes yes.
It's more sad when people make ignorant comments about a glaring problem.
Note: no don't give me excuse about developed and undeveloped nations. Nature of problem varies but not everything is rosy even in Western countries who claim to treat women much better.
For those who think that all my examples are related to India,

is my answer to this.
I really wanted you to address the other side of feminism too, Ira.
What OP saying isn't entirely wrong. There is other side of feminism too, but we can't simply eradicate feminism due to fault of few people who are part of this movement. We haven't reached that stage yet, there is a still a long way to go for equality, and hence I had to say Feminism is needed.:yeah:
