Since the 5 Kage Summit, the Susanoo has been deployed frequently by Sasuke, Itachi and Madara. It's got to the point where I think Kishimoto has run out of creative ideas to make the fights with the Uchiha interesting. The strategy for the surviving Uchiha (minus Obito) is to cast Susanoo (a total defense shield that blocks even the strongest of attacks) and launch jutsu from it. It seems like Susanoo is less of a jutsu and more of a crutch the Uchiha have to lean on in order to survive against superior opponents.
The Itachi vs Sasuke fight. Sasuke maneuvered Itachi in to a position where he (Sasuke) could launch his new jutsu Kirin. A lightning bolt Sasuke slammed down on his opponent. Itachi had nothing in his arsenal to counter or dodge this technique. Had it not been for a last second deployment of Susanoo, Itachi would've died. Take Susanoo away all together and Itachi would've died.
Sasuke vs Raikage, Gaara, Mei and Danzo. He fought each of them individually. Except Gaara who had help from Kankuro and Temari. I wouldn't say Gaara is superior to Sasuke, but the other Kage definitely were above Sasuke. If Sasuke didn't have Susanoo to carry him through the fights, he would've died at the summit for sure.
Sasuke and Itachi vs Dragon Sage Kabuto. They both cast Susanoo at the beginning of the fight because together neither of them can go the distance against Kabuto.
Madara vs the Five Kage. Madara deploys his Perfect Susanoo against the Kage. While I have no doubt Madara can take the Kage without Susanoo. I think he used it out of laziness rather than viewing the Kage as a threat to him. Funny enough when Edo Hashirama arrives on the battlefield, I don't recall Madara using Susanoo in his duel with Hashi.
There are more instances of Susanoo but these I feel are the ones that standout the most. I found the overuse of Susanoo has made the fight involving the Uchiha stale to an extent. Disappointing when you consider ninja like Sasuke, who was fully trained by Orochimaru and theoretically should have every jutsu Orochimaru had (thanks to the Sharingan). However the way Sasuke fights, you would think he only has a handful of moves. Madara has gone between his own EMS, rinnegan, fire style and mokuton techniques since his revival. I was expecting more from such a legendary Uchiha. His repertoire being a collection of moves we have seen in other ninja before.
